I read recently that Paul will be seen in the latest "Pirates of the Caribbean" sequel. (To be released in 2017)

In the 1960s he and the Beatles made feature films, and Magical Mystery Tour, as well as music videos. Paul showed a wonderful talent for comedy, and he has an adorable smile that lights up the screen.

Do you think there would ever be any interest among his fans in seeing Paul in a romantic comedy or feature length film? I think he could do it, although it would have to be just the right vehicle, where he could showcase his music as well as take a lead acting role. Some might say he's past his prime for that type of work, but I disagree... McCartney is never past his prime, and always on the go and working at something, and his music is ageless!

He is so well loved that I think people of all ages would flock to see a film in which he stars, and it would be a mega-blockbuster hit. Just wanted to ask other fans what they think

No, he looks good, but he doesn't know how to act. He overacts. He can do small comedy bits pretty well.

I think it would also depend on what type of character he was playing. If the character was more like him, with sort of a dry wit and sense of humor, he wouldn't have to do much acting. And a good director could also help him bring the character to life.

prudence1964:No, he looks good, but he doesn't know how to act. He overacts. He can do small comedy bits pretty well.

I agree with this quote, at least in A Hard Days Night and Help, I think John and Ringo were the best actors and then George was quite anonymous. Paul did overact a bit, it didn't seem natural to him. A bit the same with Broad Street I guess.

On the other hand, I do agree that he has pulled off some comedy routines and other stuff through his career, so I'm not saying it would be impossible..

I don't think fans would " flock to see a film" starring Paul.

Ask yourself this - how many copies of 'New' has he sold in the UK, for example, since it's release in 2013 - he's sold less than 60,000 copies. It hasn't even attained Silver certification in the UK and neither has 'Kisses On The Bottom' released the year before.

In fact, 'Chaos and Creation in the Backyard' and 'Memory Almost Full' only scraped through to Gold sales awards, and that's his "main job", if you like.

I think fans want to see better studio material from him and for him to continue with great live shows much more than seeing him act in a (potentially disasterous) film.

Paul's a great musician and one of the best songwriters the world has ever known, but he can't act his way out of a bathtub.

Yes, everyone wants more live shows and great music, but a potentially successful film would give him and his music even more media exposure.

But of course it all depends on what Paul would like to do, at this point he may want to just continue making music and not try something new (such as movies or TV). But I still think he could be successful in a well-written film, even if he's essentially just playing another version of himself.

                    hahahaha
So far it doesn't seem like fans are very supportive of the idea, which is ok, lol
                    Was just wondering.

prudence1964:No, he looks good, but he doesn't know how to act. He overacts. He can do small comedy bits pretty well.

Agreed! In A Hard Day's Night he especially over acted. In my opinion, George was the best actor (that whole "Who's this Susan when she's at home?" scene was priceless!). John and Ringo were fairly natural too. Paul was just too nervous and trying too hard.

LadyLeslie:...Yes, everyone wants more live shows and great music, but a potentially successful film would give him and his music even more media exposure...

Why would he need more exposure - he was part of (arguably) the biggest band ever and is one of the worlds most well known singer/songwriters.

That's very true, I was answering in response to what you wrote in a previous post (see quote below)

Ask yourself this - how many copies of 'New' has he sold in the UK, for example, since it's release in 2013 - he's sold less than 60,000 copies. It hasn't even attained Silver certification in the UK and neither has 'Kisses On The Bottom' released the year before.

When posting about media exposure, I was referring to generating more interest in his newer music, post-Wings, and just wondered if a big film appearance or something of that kind would create even more interest in him and his more recent work. Everyone here at the Maccaboard is a true and diehard fan of Paul, and familiar with his latest music, but would be great to bring even more people in, who aren't familiar with his newer work. Would be absolutely fantastic if he could sell 600,000 CDs instead of just 60,000. Anyway, that's where my thoughts were coming from

It doesn't sound like too many fans would be enthusiastic to see Paul in a film project, but I'm sure he has many good media and publicity advisors who are there to help him market his new music. Paul will always be in the public eye no matter what, he has so many fans who truly love and support him. He's a living legend, and a brilliant and gifted musician and composer whose body of work will always be loved and appreciated, so in that regard he needs no further media exposure.

Paul was pretty bad in Hard Days Night, Help, and especially Broad Street. Overacting and self conscious of the cameras. He did better in Magical Mystery Tour, probably because he was stoned out of his mind.

Paul should do cameos or play himself and exaggerate his stereotypes. My favorite Beatles acting is George as the reporter in The Rutlles movie. Hilarious.

Don't really want to think of any of the Beatles as "actors".... and I'm not even that fond of their "paintings and art"..... pretty ordinary, some of those those paintings and art.... some may differ in their opinion on that. But, hey, I'm happy to hang my hat on them being the greatest band and songwriters of all time!!!!..... that'll do me.

HaileyMcComet:Paul's a great musician and one of the best songwriters the world has ever known, but he can't act his way out of a bathtub.

Hmmmmmm... I'd like to see him try to act his way out of a bathtub!

What??? You mean you'd like to see Paul naked? Interesting...

SusyLuvsPaul:What??? You mean you'd like to see Paul naked? Interesting...

                                    Nice try!

I'm going to love being exact with you!

Act your way out of a bathtub! Lets break it down:

Bathtub, didn't say bubbles or a shower therefore he is not naked! Interesting huh.....

Paul has been in a nude scene ONCE, in Help, COVERED! As an actor, we have never seen him nude and never will! I am not gay, sorry to disappoint you.

So if the above statement "Paul can't act his way out of a bathtub, he is not nude is he?"

JoeySmith:Paul was pretty bad in Hard Days Night, Help, and especially Broad Street. Overacting and self conscious of the cameras. He did better in Magical Mystery Tour, probably because he was stoned out of his mind.

I think Paul in a smaller cameo would be best. I enjoyed him in AHDN, Help, and GMRTBS, but that's as a fan of his already.

                                      Paul carrying a feature film?

                                      No. That ship has sailed.

His Red Nose Day cameo in 2011 was a riot!
Of course Ringo's "Hey, what about me?!" stole the scene!

Maybe 30-40 years ago, definitely! Woo hoo!!

                                          Now? Not so much.

Back to topic, I think that Paul is NOT a good actor. Even his scripted comments during his concerts seem stilted or overacted.

I like the fact that he has things down set, and knows ahead of time what he's going to say when he gives a concert... it shows he tries to give his fans essentially the same concert wherever he happens to be, not making one concert better than another. Of course there will always be something unique at each one, but I think in that way, it's Paul trying to give his best to his fans, and to be totally prepared beforehand. I don't think there's any intentional scripting though, he's just done so many concerts, he knows what to say with each song

As far as acting goes, Paul seems to do best when he plays himself... either as a cameo walk-on, or as a character that's essentially just another version of himself. I think he could have a part (either large or small) in a comedy film and do really well. The script would have to be very good, and allow him to essentially play himself. I agree that acting in a film where he'd have to find a character that's "out of the box" and unlike himself would be a challenge.... but perhaps not impossible.
