OK, Macca has employed you to pick his set list for a "Best Of" 12 song mini concert.

Must be 4 songs on bass or electric guitar
      4 songs on acoustic
      4 on piano

      What do you pick???

        Bass/Electric guitar:

        Oh! Darling
        A Taste of Honey
        P.S. I Love You
        No More Lonely Nights

        Acoustic:

        Early Days
        Junk
        Wild Honey Pie
        Distractions

        Piano:

        Honey Pie
        Martha My Dear
        Beautiful Night
        Wanderlust

        You?re welcome Paul!

          Bass/Electric guitar
          Letting Go
          Cant Buy Me Love
          I Got A Feeling
          Goodnight Tonight

          Acoustic

          Early Days
          Hope of Deliverance
          Bluebird

          Piano:
          Martha My Dear
          Dear Friend
          Lady Madonna
          Cmon People

            Bass/electric;

            Old Siam Sir
            My Brave Face
            The World Tonight
            Coming up

            Acoustic;

            Junk
            Put it There
            Tug of War
            Young Boy

            Piano;

            Dear Friend
            1985
            Waterfalls
            Wanderlust

But that's just how I feel today, ask me again tomorrow and they'll probably change!

I realise my choices are maybe not the "best of"' where the masses are concerned, but from a purely selfish point of view, that's what I'd want to hear

I've mixed them all together, really. Let's see how this goes.

I Saw Her Standing There (b/g-1)
                Junior's Farm (b/g-2)
                Everybody Out There (ac-1)

                We Got Married (ac-3)
                Put It There (ac-4)
                Lady Madonna (p-2)
                I'm Down (b/g-3)

                    Acoustic:

                    Til There Was You
                    Mull of Kintyre

                    -Rubber Soul13

Not necessarily in the order I'd have him play them:

4 songs on bass or electric guitar
                      The Mess
                      That Was Me
                      You Won't See Me

                      Sally G
                      Mull of Kintyre

Great mix Yankeefan of Solo, Wings and Beatle classics. I will put mine together a little later.

I would actually love to see Paul do a new Unplugged Concert sometime in 2018 after he gives good rest to his vocal cords throughout 2017. There are so many of his own songs that he has never or rarely performed that he could do. This would be quite a bit different than his original Unplugged where he did quite a few covers.

But for the purposes of this thread, here is my "dream" 12 song set mixing his different instruments. Because this is something that I know would never happen, I have stayed almost exclusively with Post Beatles songs.

                              Base or Electric Guitar

                              The Mess
                              I Can Bet
                              Young Boy
                              Promise to You Girl

                              Acoustic Set

                              Little Willow
I'll Be on My Way (This was a very early Beatles song written by Macca; great song)
On the Wings of a Nightingale (Criminal that Macca didn't do this one on 1st Unplugged)
                              Early Days

                              Piano

Single Pigeon (what a great song from Red Rose Speedway)
Only Love Remains (another great one from Press to Play)
English Tea (love to see him revive this one)
                              House of Wax (great closer)

I know that I included a Beatles song...I'll Be on My Way but this is one that he has never done. I've seen covers of this song from other artists and they are terrific. The same is with "On the Wings of a Nightingale" never even released by Macca. If Paul doesn't want to play "Early Days" for some reason, he could throw in Hope of Deliverance or even as a very hidden gem...Mama's Little Girl.

                              We can all dream!!

BJ, I'm afraid "resting his voice" is not going to make any difference. It is beyond the point of no return and will never get any better.

                                  Nancy,
                                  You're probably right.

I do remember after he took significant time off from the road for most of the 90's after Linda's illness and subsequent death. If you remember he then released Run Devil Run in late 1999.

Not only did his vocals sound fantastic on the album but his live performances promoting Run Devil Run sounded pretty good also. You, of course, remember his live show at the Tavern Club.

But, I do realize that it is now many years later and he has been constantly on the road over the last few years. That being said, you are probably right that at this late age, he might not be able to even bring his "middle age" voice back. Another reason that I would like to see him eventually do another "Unplugged" show where he can pick out songs that his current voice can handle much better. One can only hope.

                                    Base or Electric Guitar:
                                    Ever Present Past
                                    About You
                                    Cafe on the Left Bank
                                    Uncle Albert, Admiral Halsey

                                    Acoustic Set:
                                    Friends to Go
                                    Put it there
                                    Country Dreamer
                                    Somebody Who Cares

                                    Piano:
                                    Wanderlust
                                    Anyway
                                    C'mon People
                                    Warm and Beautiful

12 Songs are only one third of his standard setlist... but I'ld absolutly prefer such an short and EXCITING selection!

Great mix of songs Mr. Flaming Pie. So many "hidden gems" here.

Let's get real...a "best of" concert to appease a "best of" crowd is none of these ...it's this...

                                        Band on The Run
                                        Jet
                                        Day Tripper
                                        Can't Buy Me Love
                                        ---
                                        Blackbird
                                        Yesterday
                                        Here, There, and Everywhere
                                        Eleanor Rigby
                                        ---
                                        The Long and Winding Road
                                        Let it Be
                                        Live and Let Die
                                        Hey Jude

                                        and ya know what...that sucks.

There are so many of his own songs that he has never or rarely performed that he could do. This would be quite a bit different than his original Unplugged where he did quite a few covers.

But for the purposes of this thread, here is my "dream" 12 song set mixing his different instruments. Because this is something that I know would never happen, I have stayed almost exclusively with Post Beatles songs.

                                          Base or Electric Guitar

                                          The Mess
                                          I Can Bet
                                          Young Boy
                                          Promise to You Girl

                                          Acoustic Set

                                          Little Willow
I'll Be on My Way (This was a very early Beatles song written by Macca; great song)
On the Wings of a Nightingale (Criminal that Macca didn't do this one on 1st Unplugged)
                                          Early Days

                                          Piano

Single Pigeon (what a great song from Red Rose Speedway)
Only Love Remains (another great one from Press to Play)
English Tea (love to see him revive this one)
                                          House of Wax (great closer)

I know that I included a Beatles song...I'll Be on My Way but this is one that he has never done. I've seen covers of this song from other artists and they are terrific. The same is with "On the Wings of a Nightingale" never even released by Macca. If Paul doesn't want to play "Early Days" for some reason, he could throw in Hope of Deliverance or even as a very hidden gem...Mama's Little Girl.

                                          We can all dream!!

Cool selections !! I totally forgot about song "Single Pigeon". I have always loved "On The Wings OF A Nightingale" and always wished Mr. McCartney had made an official recording of this song. BTW - Have you noticed "Audi" has disappeared from this site. I hope everything is ok.

                                            B J Conlee:

Nancy R:BJ, I'm afraid "resting his voice" is not going to make any difference. It is beyond the point of no return and will never get any better.

                                            ___________________________________________________________
                                            Nancy,
                                            You're probably right.

"Not only did his vocals sound fantastic on the album but his live performances promoting Run Devil Run sounded pretty good also. You, of course, remember his live show at the Tavern Club"

I have stated before that I believe RDR is one of his best ever vocal performances on record.
