      The 2012 Obama support message:

LOVE how Paul's getting involved, but I gotta say - he's supporting the right guy! Although once again he has annoyed the Republicans with his views!

What do you think of Paul getting involved?

I guess Paul can do whatever he wants. But I really am wanting Paul to voice his
opinion on what his stance is on Obama's decision to allow horses to be slaughtered
in the USA, done during Thanksgiving 2011. (which makes me lose my appetite.)
Great for Paul to say which candidate he likes...but I hope next time he gets to hang with the Prez. he can tell him to stop the slaughter of horses.

p.s.> I have to admit that is the most appealing endorsement for Obama or Romney I have seen thus far.

Interesting to read all the reactions on your Facebook.

I am glad someone is standing up to the Republican hatemongers

I don't think this is the right forum for politics, but seriously? Republican hatemongerers? If anyone is spreading hate and a whole bunch of misinformation, it is Barack. He came in pretending to be a unifier and having a new tone, but yet his whole platform now is based entirely on class warfare and mischaracterizing Romney's positions (including all but calling him a murderer in a now infamous ad). If any previous President would have done what he just did with the disaster and then coverup in Libya, he/she would have been impeached.

                  Thank you, Paul.

                  Thank you, Wix.

                  Thank you, Abe.

                  Thank you, Rusty.

                  Thank you, Brian.

                  You can't all be wrong.

I hope there will be no negative reactions during Paul's upcoming US concerts due to his political views.

Briefly, in 2009, Paul was introducing "Blackbird" by bridging the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s to the election of Barack Obama. Although that was, indeed, a remarkable thing, some couldn't bypass their anti-liberal hatred, overlooking the bigger point: that the ultimate American dream had been fulfilled by a person of color.

He stopped doing that, but he kept in the light-show images of Obama in "Sing The Changes."

If I went to a Toby Keith concert, I wouldn't "boo" if he said something pro-Bush. It would take every muscle in my body, but I wouldn't do it.

We do agree that this thread isn't the place for the more general aspects of members perceptions about the qualities of the candidates.

We have a hearty discussion running here:

Where such views are welcomed and discussed.

Please reserve this thread for your personal opinions on Paul's decision to pro-actively support Barack Obama at this time.

                        Thanks

He has as much right to support whomever he wants as anyone else. Not being American does not mean American leaders cannot affect our lives.

Paul supported Obama in 2008, so I see no reason for any fans to get upset at his concerts now if they did not then. One need not agree with someone's politics to enjoy their music.

Never bothered me one bit who he supports politically but would like to think that he would back up his words by actions.

I have followed and been a fan of the Beatles and Paul for the past 49 years. I have lived through the hippie movement, the peace movement, etc. I am familiar with their/his statements (usually musically) on politics and what was going on in the world.
However, what I have had deep disappointment for is that Paul has swung over to the side of all the other artists who seem to think that they know what is best and that they are going to use their celebrity to encourage people to do things their way. I am speaking about his vocal support for President Obama. Not only does he simply leave it at that, but he now is telling his fans, on You Tube to vote for Obama. There are way too many sheep who will follow blindly.
The first time I saw Obama's image on the screen behind Paul at one of his concerts, I was really disappointed. It had no place there. I went to several concerts thereafter and always cringed when that moment would come up...actually had hoped he had come to his senses and realized this was not the time or place. It kind of deflated the mood and the momentum of the concert and the energy. Was this a subliminal political rally?
But, anyway. I am not an Obama hater. I think he has very good qualities and good ideas (on the surface). Do I think he is misguided? Yes. Do I think there are underlying intentions behind all the beautifully wrapped rhetoric? Yes.
                              Sorry....getting away from my point.
My point...Dear Sir Paul, is that unless you fully understand EVERYTHING that is going on and more importantly, all the consequences which can arise out of some of these decisions, then please PLEASE don't use your celebrity to TELL people how to vote. Why not encourage people to vote...to read all the issues...to understand all the plans...and to make their own decision? I believe in issues from both parties. Neither party has it 100% right. But, I don't think a vote should be cast on a personal belief of 1 or 2 issues which are close to us...but instead should be cast on the big picture.
                              That's all. Sorry so long.

So, Paul may not publicly endorse a candidate, but you may publicly denounce his endorsements?

Paul can support who he likes, and he has the right to express his preferences but its tricky because he risks alienating a section of his fanbase.

Saying that, its interesting to note that, when 'Freedom' came out, Paul cut a very Republican dash.

I'm on the fence about this, because as a fellow Brit I kind of feel that Paul shouldn't really become too heavily involved in the politics of another country but at the same time I respect his right to an opinion. I hope people who disagree with him still respect that right.
