      Any Sherlock fans here?

Classic short stories and novels, classic films, modern films and television series - any favorites? Have a favorite portrayal of Sherlock in film or television? Perhaps a favorite story or character?

We are currently enjoying the television series 'Elementary' starring Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu. In addition, we absolutely LOVE BBC's 'Sherlock' starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. The latter airs in the States via PBS on Sunday evenings after 'Downton Abbey.' Anyone planning on checking out the third season premiere of 'Sherlock' this evening?

        The Butler did it!

OMG, yes! I LOVE Benedict Cumberbatch & Martin Freeman as Holmes & Watson! Watched the premiere earlier. I also watch Elementary & love Jonny Lee Miller. (can you believe he was once married to Angelina Jolie?!) There's a survey on Parade.com as to who your favorite Sherlock Holmes of all time is and Benedict is winning by a mile!

Love the books, HATE "Sherlock" on PBS, a show that is way, way too much in love with its own cleverness.

The Hound Of The Baskervilles movie from 1959 is the most familiar Sherlock Holmes tale to me. It was pretty scary to watch as a young boy!

What a party pooper you are Bruce! It's clever because Sherlock is so clever!

I like the 1939 version with Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce a bit more than the 1959 version. As you note, the '59 version is a bit scary. ops:

I remember watching both of them now...but, mostly how the dog was portrayed in this evill sinister and scary way!

Thank you so much for letting me know this is on PBS. I really love this version and have purchased past seasons as a boxed set, but now I'm able to catch this on PBS on Demand. So happy !!! Love Downton Abbey as well

^ You're welcome! Glad you are enjoying the series!

Books are second to none, of course. But i was so pleasantly surprised by the BBC series - fantastic balance between credibility and modernization!

                                  Two words: Jeremy Brett.

The wedding episode this week was priceless!

I just had a look at Brett's work on imdb and a quick search at YouTube produced many offerings including full Sherlock episodes - looking forward to checking out his work!

The Sign of Three......absolutely brilliant, best episode ever!!! LOVED every minute!!!

I saw a commercial for Elementary the other night. Looks like it could be a pretty neat show.

^ 'Elementary' is very well done, check it out!
