Oi, please don't attribute that rose-tinted expression above (in a broken quote) to my username .

Bruce M.:Is it me, or is this recurring set list discussion beginning to sound as familiar and unchanging as Paul's shows? Sure, I think he could easily change things up a bit while keeping the show heavy with Beatles and with familiar tunes, which he's convinced is what the masses want. I, for one, am relieved that he kept "My Valentine," which is a beautiful song that deserves to be heard.

We're not talking about a free show in Central Park. We're talking about the most expensive, recurring tour around.

paulislive:I really wish people on here would give it a rest and accept him for the marvel that he is. :

If I did that, I would be a fawning sycophant. I ain't that. And as I repeat paying customer I have the right to criticise the merchandise. What some of the folks don't UNDERSTAND is it's BECAUSE we are, or have been lifelong fans and admire, or admired the guy, we feel if he challenged himself even more, he could be even GREATER.

The argument that most concert-goers are first time or "oncers" doesn't wash. Not in the USA and South America where he has toured year after year...after year...after year...after year. And after year.

I have travelled to Europe and USA (and Japan) each year to see him. I had planned to go again. I'm not leaving the country for this. Sorry.

          ...that is all.

Yes he has played the U.S. year after year but not always the same places during those years. Not everybody can afford to travel to other places to see him like others can even if they wanted to. I've been a fan of Paul's since I was a child but I wasn't able to see him live until 2010, so yes there are a lot of people here in the U.S. that are seeing him for the first time at each concert! There were many many times I wanted to go, but I couldn't at the time, due to circumstances such as money, life happenings, or concerts that were sold out. I've been fortunate that I have been able to travel a few times to see him here in the States since, but NOT everybody can.

My best buddy from college Jack is hardly a fan, and even he has seen Paul twice (Nashville 2010 and Bonnaroo 2013).

It is time for something new.

What a fine mess I've gotten myself into this time.

kitty55d:Funny, just the other day I pulled out my setlist from the SJ show in the Driving Rain tour (2002) for a friend. Did a comparison with the reported setlist from the Uruguay show and got these results:

              37 songs both shows
              16 songs were the same
              19 songs were different
2 songs were the same but different
Golden/Carry/The End, he did only Carry and The End, but separately
Let Me Roll It/Foxy Lady, he didn't do the Foxy Lady part
              at the 2002 show

Comparing the Uruguay setlist with the one from Brooklyn last year, there are only 5 differences -- the added 4 songs from New plus One after 909

I guess the only point from this is that there have been some significant changes in his setlists over the last 10 years or so, but not much since last year...

It's the last 45 mins./hour of the show that needs the biggest shake-up...

...along with the over-played "Long & Winding Road," "All My Loving" and "Let Me Roll It."

The misquoting issue has been rectified.

If Paul is going to do a Beatle's set mainly, then fine. Make it a Beatle show, even though this is a PAUL MCCARTNEY concert and not a Beatle concert, change it up! A Beatle show only? Ok then play other Beatle songs then the same songs he plays every single tour! If Paul wants to ignore literally 30 years worth of great music, then play Rocky Raccoon, Another Girl, What Your Doing, or NEW Wings songs such as Pipes of Peace, No More Lonely Nights, Daytime Nighttime Suffering, etc. And if he doesn't, then heck, I'll even take songs he has played semi recently on tour again that have been off the setlist for years (10 years ago-present) such as Coming Up, Here, There, and Everywhere, Penny Lane, I Will, etc. Paul just gets way to insecure with his music and it's not like people aren't to like the songs they aren't familiar with. It's Paul McCartney! It's not an up and coming artist who is trying to get the audiences' approval for heaven's sake! I think he established himself as the greatest musician in the world and should be able to play other solo songs by now. My aunt who saw Paul at the Hollywood Bowl in 2010, had previously seen him way back in 1989 at the Forum in LA had even said that he "always plays the same songs." That's a biiig your gap when she last saw him. We own DVD's of his tour's and know what he's going to do next. The same thing. He can play more than one old solo song in his shows. People can hear songs they aren't familiar with because it will expose them to songs they might not have known before. I'm sure a lot of people weren't familiar with Calico Skies before he brought it in live. But now people love that song who hadn't heard it before..

Paul needs to speak 10 min. with Dyland and Springsteen about how to make a setlist :-)

Well, I love his set list. Went to a Springsteen concert a few years back and he played about nine songs from his new album; fans were ticked!! He also opened with two songs no one ever heard off. One of the slowest and boring concerts ever! In the past four years I have heard Letting Go, Listen To What The Man Said, 19-fricking-85, Mrs. Vandebilt, Mr. Kite, Lovely Rita, Ram On, Rock Show, Venus and Mars, Your Mother Should Know, Day Tripper, HI HI HI, Another Day, 8 Days A Week, Juniors' Farm, etc, etc.

All good for this McCartney fan!

And yet Springsteen continues to sell out arenas.

Please Paul please.....please play Rocky Raccoon when you go to North Dakota. Please? And please keep it in the setlist from then on. It's probably the most appropriate place to play Rocky Raccoon that he's ever played. Cause I don't think he's going to Rapid City, South Dakota anytime soon. This will be the closest chance to hearing him sing Rocky Raccoon. and hopefully if he does, he will keep it in the setlist for the remainder of the tour!!

wingsoverkc:Well, I love his set list. Went to a Springsteen concert a few years back and he played about nine songs from his new album; fans were ticked!! He also opened with two songs no one ever heard of

I bet you that the die-hard Springsteen fans at your show knew those first two songs and that he made those fans as happy as if Paul had opened a show for us with No More Lonely Nights and Pipes of Peace! It's all relative. You found Bruce slow and boring. There are sadly, many people who are bored with Paul songs they don't know and are really there to hear him sing Beatles songs.

For me, I have stopped expecting radical changes to Paul's set, even tho I would love to see a completely different one! For this tour, I just want to hear all of the NEW songs live. If he cuts any of them by the time he gets to the US, I will be disappointed. Everything else just is what it is.

EXACTLY! If a handful of people were bored, and didnt know the new songs, then dont go! If you arent buying the new album, then why go?!?!? There are 1,000's of fans that will take their places!
I also dont buy the explanantion that MANY people in the crowd haven't seen Paul in concert. He's been touring the WORLD regularly since 2002. Many people have had many chances to see him in that timeframe.

Yes he has been touring for years we all get that, and despite what people think yes there are always a lot of people at every Paul concert that are experiencing it for the first time. Paul has fans of all ages and types. There are those who just recently became Paul fans be it through listening to Beatles or Paul's solo stuff, and then there are those who came with parents for the first time who may have been too young or not interested the last time Paul toured in their area. Then there are people like me who maybe have wanted to see Paul for ages but could never go for various reasons in their lives. As I told others earlier not everybody can afford to travel to see Paul so they wait till he comes back hopefully to their area. The last bunch are those that have seen Paul live before but it could have been years since they were last able to go. Yes Paul has toured a lot since 2002 but he doesn't always go to the same places. Some he repeats some he doesn't visit for years as many on this board are well aware of since they've been expressing their frustrations which I can totally understand.
