Interesting that McCartney III has not one but two bird themed songs, Long Tailed Winter Bird and later Bird Winter.
Started to list the various bird-themed songs fro over the years:

Single Pigeon-great harmonies!
On the Wings of a Nightingale, done by the Everly Brothers. Great song wish he had kept.
Two Magpies
anyone think of a bird that has flown away from my memory?
Hey John,
Always loved "Single Pigeon". It was my favorite track on Red Rose Speedway. And, of course, someone elso added Jenny Wren a great song on Chaos and Creation.
This is a bit of a stretch but another song where a bird is mentioned in the lyrics is the great extra track on the Red Rose Speedway Archive Edition:
*Mama's Little Girl
in the lyrics Paul says twice the line..."Singing like a Skylark"
