With the release of "McCartney III", I thought it would be fun to see what fans on this board listen to most/least of the albums they own. Please select your top/bottom five in order and I will assigned points to your selections. The number one selection gets 5 points and so on. It would be more interesting if you put a comment next to each selection. I will start. Note ** McCartney II and Wild Life" are not on least because they are one of the few albums I never bought -lol. I will total up points after a month.

      Top 5 Most

      1) MAF - Really love this upbeat/commercial album which just puts me in a good mood. Love dancing around to songs like "That Was Me", "Dance Tonight", "Ever Present Past" and "Only Mama Knows". One of my recent all time favorite songs is "House Of  Wax" which is very hautning and has cool guitar solo.

      2) CHAOS - I consider it the top McCartney solo album and the only reason I list it as #2 is that generally is a pretty somber album.  It has so many classics IMO like "Too Much Rain", "Riding To Vanity Fair", How Kind Of You" and "Promise To You Girl". You have to be in a certain type of mood to listen to this album and I usually listen to it with a glass of wine -lol

      3) FITD - This album will always be special to me because it was the album he played for his first solo tour and I loved many of the songs especially after hearing them live. Another fun album to listen to because of songs like "My Brave Face", "Figure Of Eight, "We Got Married and "Put It There".

      4) Egypt Station - Good overall quality and diversity of songs. This album has more songs than any others on my McCartney playlist on my IPOD which I listen to jogging.  Another album that has a bunch of songs that are fun to dance to - ha ha.

      5) McCartney III  - Obviously part of the reason is it is the latest album but I also really like it.

      Top 5 Least

      1) Pipes Of Peace - I forgot I even had this album that is how little I listened to it, this album disappointed me so much after the excellent TOW.

      2) Off The Ground - I think the last time I put this album on was about a month after I saw McCartney live in 1993. A few decent songs like "Hope Of Deliverance" but little else to make me want to play it again.

      3) Press To Play - I never like the overall sound of the album and not enough quality songs on it to spark my interest again.

      4) Driving Rain - guitar oriented album that had a few moments I really enjoyed like "About You" but not enough to want to listen to it again.

      5) New - this album just never did anything for me and is collecting dust. It is not bad album and I enjoy a couple of songs like "I Can Bet" and "Early Days" , if I played it again, I would skip quite a few songs.

This would be hard for me to answer because I love almost all of Paul's original studio albums (with the only exceptions being McCartney 2 and Pipes of Peace), and as a result I tend to just kind of rotate through them all pretty evenly. I guess I'd say:

        Most

        1. Egypt Station. This is one of my very favorites, lots of variety and I like every single song on it.

        2. Ram. Love it, lots of fun to listen to and it rocks. The only thing I think it's missing is a great closer, as I don't like Back Seat of My Car much.

        3. Tug of War. I think every song is fantastic, with the glaring exceptions of What's That You're Doing and Ebony and Ivory.

        4. New. I really enjoy this one especially Early Days and Hosanna. It has a different, more "slick" feel than the other albums, but if I'm in the mood for that it's great.

        5. McCartney. I love the feel of this album. Oo You is an underrated gem. I like everything except Teddy Boy and Kreen Akrore.

        Least

(The real answers here would be Run Devil Run, Kisses on the Bottom, the Russian album, and Give My Regards to Broad Street, but I think you're asking about Paul's original albums)

        1. Pipes of Peace. To me, this one is just bland all the way through, so I don't play it as much as the others.

        2. McCartney 2. The opposite of POP, I love half of M2, but dislike the other half, so it's very up and down, with too much down. It's like a half of an album, so I end up playing it less. Front Parlor, Frozen Jap and Bogey Music are the ones I really dislike.

        3. Press to Play: I like this album and think it's generally underrated, but I just don't get around to listening to it very much. I love Good Times Coming/Feel the Sun, and dislike Talk More Talk and Pretty Little Head.

        4. Off the Ground. I like this one a lot, except for Looking for Changes and Biker Like an Icon. Hope of Deliverance is way overrated too, not sure what people see in that one. I absolutely love the ending with Wine Dark Open Sea, C'mon People, and Cosmically Conscious. I suppose this gets played slightly less than some others.

        5. Flowers in Dirt. I feel guilty listing this one as I do love the majority  of the album. I can't listen to Put It There without starting to tear up. But You Want Her Too and Ou est le Soleil are among my least favorite songs Paul's ever done, and the overall production is too 80's sounding, so I get to it a little less.

Yikes! Two of my favorites were not listed yet!

          MOST:

          1. Flaming Pie

          2. Band On The Run

          3. FITD

          4. NEW

          5. Egypt Station

          LEAST:

          1. Press To Play

          2. Memory Almost Full

          3.McCartney III

          4. McCartney II

          5. Driving Rain

Before I go away on a short trip, I thought I would respond to Yankeefan's post.  I'm going to rate a little differently breaking it down to Best/Favorite albums.  I find it difficult to compare Paul's 70 Wings albums with his Solo albums starting with the 80's.  I'm just going to include only 80's and upward.

            5 "Best" Solo Albums

            1. Chaos and Creation - perfect and totally consistent Paul album (not anything close to a clunker)

            2. Egypt Station - take Fuh You and Caesar Rock off and Egypt Station would be fightiing for the #1 position

            3. Flaming Pie - take Really Love You off and it would be fighting for the #1 position

            4. Tug of War - take What's That Your Doing off and it would be fighting for the #1 position

            5. Flowers in the Dirt - take the last 2 tracks off and it would be fighting for the #1 position

            5 "favorite Solo albums

            1. McCartney 3 - Because it is Paul's latest, it is my favortie right now.  Love his 3 minute songs here like Seize the Day, Find My Way, The Kiss of Venus, Slidin, Pretty Boys and Women & Wives.

            2. Egypt Station and Chaos and Creation (tie) -love the best songs on both  albums like Dominoes, Happy With You, I Don't know, Hand in Hand and Chaos songs like Jenny Wren, Friends to Go, Too Much Rain and Riding to Vanity Fair

            3. Flowers in the Dirt - love the first 7 or 8 songs on this album

            4. Flaming Pie - love the great songs on this album including Little Willow, Somedays, Heaven on a Sunday, Beautiful Night , Calico Skies etc.

            5. Memory Almost Full - again I love the best songs on MAF

Just a reminder, this was to be the albums you listened to the most/least and not your favorite or what you consider the worst album, there can be a difference. For example, I think BOTR is a great album and have enjoyed it over the years. It has just been so overplayed to me and that is why it is not on my top five most listened to albums.

That's easy.  I don't listen to his individual albums....except when they are first released.  I have a large list of my favorite songs by Paul on his own rather extensive playlist on my Ipod.  That's where/how I listen to his music.  Over time.....with some obvious exceptions....I tend to sort of forget which songs came from which albums.  The only artists' albums I listen to are The Beatles.  (Wish Apple would give the deluxe treatment to "Rubber Soul" and "Revolver."  That would be a dream come true.)  Even with The Beatles, I have a huge playlist of my very favorite songs of theirs that...more often than not... I listen to instead of individual albums.  The songs are all in order...from the start to the end of their short career.  I marvel at their growth from album to album, never repeating themselves; going from "Love Me Do" to "A Day In The Life" in such a short period of time; creating all that abrilliant music in less than 8 years!!  Sorry, got off topic.  But to restate my answer to the topic:  I don't listen to Paul's albums.

Makes me remember that he actually recorded "Mary Had a Lttle Lamb."  Now that I think about it, I found "Wings At The Speed Of Sound" to be, overall, embarrassing.  I realize he was trying to make it  a "band" album, but spreading the songs around to each member of the group and having Linda sing "Cook Of The House" was not, to me, a good idea.  That sound of something frying in a pan on the stove is eye-rolling bad!  Bacon???  Must have been before the vegan days.

My daughters are in there 30's and they listened to music especially by The Beatles by playlists. They don't really know what albums most of the songs came from with few exeptions.  Now, somebody like myself could tell you what song is on the album and the order of songs on the record -lol.

I will give "Press To Play" another try soon, maybe my thoughts will change.  I agree with you on "Wild Life" and I will once again mention how horrible IMO song like "Bip Bop" is to me.  "Wings At The Speed Of Sound" may have had a clunker or two but had some really good Paul songs also like "Beware My Love", "Silly Love Songs", "Let 'Em In" and  "Warm And Beautiful". I thought "Time To Hide" by Denny Laine was also very good.  I agree Linda's song was embarassing and unfortunately "Wino Junkie" by Jimmy McCulloch was not as good as "Medicine Jar" from "Venus And Mars".

Presuming this is which albums I have listened to the most since obtaining them. And it doesn't necessarily reflect the best or worst.

Most Listened: Press to Play (owned it on cassette, vinyl and then one of the first CD's I bought); Pipes of Peace; Wings Over America (if Live albums included); Flowers in the Dirt; Off the Ground (timed in with his Australian tour)

Least Listened: Kisses on the Bottom; Wings at the Speed of Sound;  Run Devil Run; McCartney 3 .. struggling for a fifth.

I didn't mind that album, Nance. Some good songs.

The album that really shites me at times .... is McCartney.... the first one.... cos it had one of the greatest songs he ever wrote... and he didn't release it as a single until about six years later.... as you know... that still shites me.... cos he stuffed it up by not releasing it... and that really still shites me....I  like the two Beatles "throw-aways" (two of the best on the album).... a couple of other great songs. The bottom tier of songs maybe not so great.

I don't listen to this album as much as the others.... so it probably slips into Number Five Least Listened... even if it does contain the magnificent Maybe I'm Amazed.

Most Listened: Press to Play (owned it on cassette, vinyl and then one of the first CD's I bought); Pipes of Peace; Wings Over America (if Live albums included); Flowers in the Dirt; Off the Ground (timed in with his Australian tour)

I totally agree with you about Maybe I'm Amazed - what a lost opportunity in 1970!! It is my favorite solo song of his, but you're right, I probably don't listen to the album at all. Last time was when the deluxe edition came out!

Nancy, I still reckon the best Beatles album of all-time might have been sitting in the wings of 1970-1971. John, Paul and George still at the top of their game. Would've been a cracker.

                                    ^TOTALLY AGREE!!

I have ups and downs with albums... sometimes forget about them for a while, then listen a bunch. But overall absolutely my most listened-to Paul album is Tug of War, followed closely by Venus and Mars, Flaming Pie, and then several of his later albums in a near-tie: MAF, Chaos and Egypt Station. But if you were to look at just the last 5 or 6 years, Egypt Station would win by a large margin.

Least listened to: Roughly a tie between Ram, Wild Life, Red Rose Speedway, Press to Play, Pipes of Peace and McCartney II. Each of those albums has their moments, but I rarely find myself drawn to listen to them.

My most listened-to Paul albums reflect where I was at that stage of life, high on The Beatles (as a second-generation fan) and listening to the new releases of Paul... I did Pipes of Peace and Press to Play to death.... even, if not his best... also, back in those days... as some of us older ones will remember... no streaming, no free listens. We'd save up to buy a record and listen to it repeatedly... cos we couldn't afford to buy records every second day. I was still at uni/college.... A different time.... but, a good time!

                                          Fun thread

                                          Most Played

Ram (my favorite McCartney album, might not be the best but is my favorite, will never tire of this album).

Memory Almost Full (so much to like in this album, Mr. Bellamy is my fav)

Chaos (like BOR, a perfect album)

McCartney 3 (still getting lots of listens two months in)

New (in my car since 2013 and I still play it on road trips, perhaps if I took it out of my CD rotation in the car, I would not listen as much but I do like it)

                                          Least Played

Wildlife (just never warmed to this one, some good songs but the album just does grow on me as a whole)

Press to Play (I don't dislike it but rarely play it)

Wings at the Speed of Sound (rarely play this, I did love "Beware My Love" once so much that while in college and living in an apartment, a neighbor downstairs came upstairs to tell me to quit playing the song over and over).

Off the Ground: I actually quite like this one but I have not played if for years (I like Off the Ground: The Complete Works the best)

Pipes of Peace: The first McCartney album that I actually bought, actually I still like it but don't play it much

^ You said BOTR was a perfect album, but you don't play it much? 😂

My problem is, with the advent of cable TV, then satellite TV, Netflix etc. and the Internet, I don't play music like I used to. There are some of Paul's albums I haven't listened to since they came out! I have all the Archive ones, so have listened to them when they were re-released, but ones like PTP, Chaos, MAF...nope.  I've been playing Beatles albums off Amazon Music for my 5 mos. old granddaughter-she loves them! Will have to take over my laptop where I have all the McCartney Archive albums downloaded and play her those!
