THE BEST MERSEYBEAT SONG EVER.
-
A skiffle band was formed in 1957 and later in 1959 became The Bluegenes. In 1963 they were then known as The Swinging Blue Jeans. Their lead singer Ray Ennis sang a song that I think is the best song ever to be classed as "Merseybeat". The A side of the single is called "Promise You'll Tell Her". Thats not bad,,, but the B side is my favourite called "It's So Right". It was released in Aug 1964 on the HMV label and I think it would have went to number one had it been the A side. Paul once sang their most famous hit song Hippy Hippy Shake. A title that sounds a bit naff these days ,,,,, but we didn't think so back then. :

Well Yeah ,,,,, The band with one of the best harmonizing vocals at that time was The Hollies when they had Graham Nash.

Yes it's a great song, but it doesn't have the reverb on vocals that I think was important back then for that Merseybeat sound. Last Thursday I sang a great song by John called "All I've Got To Do". I asked the guy on the desk to give me some digital delay on the vocals and I was really happy with the sound. I didn't play that particular opening chord E11#5. A lovely introductory chord, but I find it difficult to play. John did this song in the key of C#minor, but I do it in Am and cheat by opening with a second inversion Fmajor seventh chord. As long as you don't stray too far ,,, music can sometimes be quite forgiving.
