I am hoping that once the next 2 are released the BOTR will go down in price. My plan with the deluxe editions is to buy them later as they go down in price. Of course there are special cases that I will get right away (Ram, WOA, V&M, Tug of War)
You know the deluxe BAND ON THE RUN is a numbered, limited edition, don't you...?
Ya I know. There is one at a Barnes&Noble by me and I am waiting for the price to go down.
Being limited though, the price is likely to go in the opposite direction; it's currently fetching over $200 on ebay.
Weren't 20,000 copies made?
I don't know the exact number, but once those copies are gone, you'll be at the mercy of collectors who bought multiple copies to sell on ebay at greatly inflated prices. Just saying if you really want one it's better to pay retail price now than a more extravagant price later on.
You're right. Do you own it and if so is it worth it.

its up there among his best albums. i think it really is worth it. but to be honest i saw earlier that you posted about getting the V & M deluxe... i don't think that deluxe will be worth it. its a great album but im not sure how many great feature will be in that deluxe version.

I own it and it's okay -- unlike some of the other albums being discussed in this series, BAND ON THE RUN is a celebrated classic and few would argue it doesn't deserve the deluxe treatment. Even so, a $100 asking price is out of whack when compared to Bruce Springsteen's excellent DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN box, which offers the original classic album remastered, two full discs of previously unreleased material, no less than three blu-rays, and an elegant, spiral-bound reproduction of Springsteen's '70's-era workbook with handwritten lyrics and session notes -- all for the same price as the McCartney set. The deluxe BAND ON THE RUN is nice and of all the versions released over the years it's the one to own, but when you can buy the entire stereo Beatles remasters for $200 and change, it seems unfair to be asking half that much for just a single McCartney album in the deluxe format. I'd love to be able to complete my collection from McCARTNEY through CHAOS in deluxe packages, but Paul has priced these wayyy out of the average person's pocketbook, meaning I'll have to separate the essential from the superfluous. To that end, BAND ON THE RUN is one of the essentials.

Right now I'm planning on getting the "McCartney" deluxe edition mainly because the price is reasonable and I really want the book and DVD. And if the rest of the deluxe editions are $60, I could find myself having most of them.

$60 is a much more sensible asking price. Even so, I'd have to justify which of the albums are actually worth the extra money.

I really don't get why you guys don't trust Etcetera. OK, several tracks didn't make McI and MII sets but he's been correct on many McCartney stuff these years. For instance, he pointed out that the HP cloud would open early June and he happened to be right. (in fact, it opened late May but you got the picture).

But he put all off the lost McCartney ii album on McCartney ii. And when will the music be on hp?

Thanks for the heads up. I bit the bullet and have now Pre ordered both Maccas in the deluxe edition So I'll have to wait awhile for BOTR and I hope it stays at $62 because that's a price I'm willing to pay.

My idea of what the "Paul McCartney Archive Collection" Deluxe Edition of "Wild Life" should include: Disc 1: The Original Album: 1. Mumbo 2. Bip Bop 3. Love Is Strange 4. Wild Life 5. Some People Never Know 6. I Am Your Singer --Bip Bop Link-- [?] 7. Tomorrow 8. Dear Friend --Mumbo Link-- [?]* Disc 2: Singles, Live Performances, and Etc.: 1. Give Ireland Back to the Irish 2. Give Ireland Back to the Irish (Instrumental) 3. Mary Had a Little Lamb 4. Some People Never Know (Demo) 5. Wild Life (Rehearsal) 6. Mary Had a Little Lamb (Long "4:36" Time Version) [It EXISTS!] 7. I Am Your Singer (Live, 21 August 1972, at Congresgebouw, The Hague, Netherlands) 8. Wild Life (Live, 21 August 1972, at Congresgebouw, The Hague, Netherlands) [There a better live version recorded of this song that should put instead?] I have to ask though should Hear Music add in the "Bip Bop/Mumbo" instrumental links into the original album? Or include them in the Bonus Discs, to maintain the original flow of the original 1971 LP by itself?!?!? 'Cause I'm afraid if that's done it'll cause other tracks to release in the bonus disc to be pushed off seeing the limited track listings of bonus discs for McCartney I & II + BOTR. I found out there was a demo version of "Mumbo" that's out there, but I didn't include it because it sounded TOO narrow, so sorry.
There's no demo for "Mumbo" but there are alternate mixes for that one and "Some People Never Know". There's also the Cavendish home recording of "Some People Never Know" from the McCartney sessions that would be interesting to hear along with the alternate orchestra mix of "Dear Friend". The "Bip Bop/Mumbo" links were always on the original album according to MPL. And if you're adding in "Mary Had A Little Lamb" which was recorded after Wild Life was released you might as well add the outtake "The Great Cock and Seagull Race".
is this the demo of "Some People Never Know" that you are speaking of?

Well we got the insert in the new releases show what's coming soon V&M WATSOS WOA Ram In that order. So hopefully if they moved Ram to the end we get the 3 Wings albums all at the same time in September or so, then for the Christmas market release Ram, and Ram would include an insert with the next 6 releases. Then we could start the new year with a new batch of remasters.
-
All I care about is Rockshow in WOA... If we don't get a full Rockshow DVD with no overdubs, no crowd shots, etc. Then I'm going to lose all faith in Macca.

However they go, Ram better get its own solo release. (Personally I would laugh if on WOA Paul randomly included that cartoon movie about the mice living under the Wings stage he had commissioned but shelved?)

From what I've seen of the reissues so far, we wish hard enough we'll get Rockshow. And they'll pull a George Lucas by not even bothering to remaster it or any sort of decent transfer you would hope for, expecting you to drop to your knees thankful for being offered it. (Have they explained why "One Hand Clapping" is so shockingly...well, like they directly transfered a tape hidden under someone's couch for decades? If say that was the only copy (probably not even master copy) they could of said footage, then I could understand. Otherwise NO EXCUSE AT ALL.)

To be honest, I haven't even got to watch the DVDs of the Archives yet. =s Haven't had the time at all.

I really do hope they start releasing them with more than 2 at a time. I too feel they will release those 3 together because WOA is pretty much from a tour supporting those 2 albums. You get the 2 albums and then a live album featuring those songs live and pretty much the best of everything else that came before them. I expect those in October and RAM maybe around Christmas if we are lucky. I hope this is whats coming and then we start 2012 with reissues of wild life and red rose!!

Except with the Archive release pattern so far, at best we'll get one more release this fall/winter in time for the Christmas market. I don't see them grouping those Wings records together (which makes perfect sense IMO), and then do Ram a month or two later.
