Toronto Canada 1967

Just dropping by to say hello and tell a little interesting story that my Mom told me about. When i was 3 years old my parents had a place in Scarboro (suburb of Toronto) The story is that Paul wanted to get away from all the publicity for a while so he stayed with his Mom's friend (Mrs. Mitchell) next door to our house for 6 months. It was a secret with an exception of a young girl who lived across the street who was terminally ill. From what I undersand, Paul went over there with candy and spent time with her to cheer her up. My Mom tells me that she remebers doing dishes, looking out the window thinking to her sell that the kid cutting grass next door looks an awful lot like Paul McCartney! All my life I've always wondered if this is a true story. I/my Mom may be off a year or 2 but I always thought, why would she make all this up!? Anyway- PEACE! Turbolarry

For 6 months??? No, I think people would have noticed if Paul was away for that long during one of the busiest and most productive years of his life! Typo?
-
Good point Jon. I'm just telling the story as I heard it. Help me out Paul! lol
-
Are you able to find out what street it is in Scarborough?
-
Ironically 1967 was the first year for several years when Paul wasn't out of the UK very much. He was in the US in April for a couple of weeks i believe and with the other Beatles checking out islands near Greece that July. Otherwise most of his spare time that year he was keeping a low profile on his new farm in Scotland.

Rockerdude, I beleive she said Danforth Rd. I'll call her tomorrow and ask.
-
Let's turn it round and accept Mom did have a temporary neighbour who looked like Paul around that time. However Paul's life was closely documented throughout all those years with regular events' concerts, public appearances etc. He was on the crest of the wave of his popularity and was not shunning publicity leading a high profile lifestyle. So whilst a lovely tale, and I'm sure sincerely told by your Mom, it's wasn't this Paul she saw. Martin

The only thing I could say to that is maybe it wasn't 67. She told me I was 3 years old and that would have been 1967. Maybe she was wrong and it was 65 or 66. It would have had to be before 1969 because that's when we moved to the States. The only other variable would be the length of the visit. maybe it was 6 weeks. Who knows.

I know Danforth Road in Scarborough. Its a long main street. I once lived in "The Beach" neighbourhood of Toronto just south of Danforth.

OK, I talked to Mom. It was 6 weeks and she said I was just learning to talk/walk so it was August 1965. (possibly 66- I'm a slow learner!)) The neighbor was Paul's Mom's friend from Liverpool and the girl's name was Amanda. She was sick, but it was that she was homesick. She was from England too. Paul went over and cheered her up. My Mom said she talked to him out in the yard and there's no doubt in her mind that it was Paul McCartney. The street was actually Sonmore Dr.

I think that`s the most important line. You know, it might have been Paul, but it really does seem unlikely. We`ll probably never know, but this thread is a gift to the consipracy-theorists!

The Beatles were in Toronto on 17th August 1965 but the day before they'd been in New York and the day after Toronto they were in Georgia. The last live date on that summer tour of North America was in San Francisco on 31st August, following which the Beatles went on their holidays until they started work on Rubber Soul in London on 12th October. So what was Paul doing between 1st September & 11th October 1965,....coincidentally about six weeks? I can't imagine him spending all that time in Canada but maybe be did stay for a shorter break during this period? Update: Paul returned to London on the 2nd September with the other Beatles and he was in London on the following dates: 15th September ~ attending a Ben E King performance 4th October ~ attending a Alma Cogan recording session 11th October ~ attending a Marianne Faithfull recording session. So at least we know he wasn't in Canada on those dates

Turbolarry, Sonmore Drive is in Scarborough but not near Danforth. I'm sure there some validity to you're story after all there are some that worship McCartney as if he's a godly figure and that he can walk on water or part the sea etc. Cheers!

Wow this is great

i think that your mom saw a man who looks like him, because in that time many men wanted to be like him, and many women in that time wanted to meet with him, then is not rare that your mom thought she had seen him.

So, doesn't Paul read this stuff? Can an admin email him and ask? I'm telling you it's true and would imagine Paul would enjoy reading this thread. I heard this story all my life from my Mom. I must confess at the risk of facing a lynch mob in here, I'm not much of a Beatles fan but do have a tremendous amount of respect for Paul as a human being and the efforts he's made to make our world a better place to live. (he probably got that qaulity from his neighbors lol) The only reason I'm here is to tell this cool story for die-hard McCartney fans. Help me out Paul lol!
-
Get out the pitchforks and torches, gang! This Turbolarry is "not much of a Beatles fan!" P.S. Larry, Paul is way too busy to read our silly musings here. And the mods can't contact him via email!
-
Well, I do enjoy listening to PM & Wings...
-
He`s got respect for Paul as a human being - that`s more important to me than someone being a Beatles fan! And if hereally is a Wings fan he`ll get more love on here than if he said he was a Beatles fan. I`m afraid Paul isn`t going to comment on this, so we`ll never know.Perhaps he`ll put it in his autobiography.

Don't get your knickers in a twist, I was just kidding around! Besides, for some of us, the Paul we first met was a Beatle and the Beatles will always have a special place in our hearts.
