Paul awarded the French Legion of Honour medal
-
While the article from Reuters doesn't do the whole thing justice (buy his own medal??), it is one of France's biggest honors. Clint Eastwood didn't even talk to a chair when he received his medal. ;)) It's happening on September 8th: http://in.reuters.com/article/2012/09/03/entertainment-us-france-paulmccartney-aw-idINBRE8820JJ20120903

Maybe Paul will sing 'Michelle' after he gets his medal!
-
I think they buy their own star on the walk of Fame here too. (and I heard it's $25,000.00)
-
This is huge. My other idol, comedian/director Jerry Lewis, received the same honor in 1984. Paul will be in great company, including Dr. Jonas Salk.
-
Sacre Bleu.

The article mentioning Liza and Clint versus, oh, all of the great humanitarians who have also received the award was a bit odd, but yes, very big deal.
-
Ha yes, he must also buy the finest wine for all to drink at the reception...haw...haw... Podgie (i am all the sudden talking like Maurice Chevalier and I don't know why) Monkey

The other names I've seen of musicians who got this award: Quincy Jones, Shirley Bassey, Miles Davis, Placido Domingo, and Duke Ellington. France really doesn't give this honor out that often to foreign musicians/songwriters. Way to go, France.

Salma Hayek?

Salma Hayek?
Well that's what happens when you marry French billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault. You get a nifty award you don't deserve. But she only got a "chevalier" or "knight" award. Paul is getting the more prestigious award of "officer" -- one step up. But yes, there was a big controversy in France over whether Salma Hayek deserved it. It was Sarcozy that gave it to her and he got voted out of office.

And Quincy Jones, Shirley Bassey, Miles Davis, Placido Domingo, and Duke Ellington. Be fair! He's also apparently the first British musician/songwriter ever to receive the award.

I was referring back to the article in my first post, that mentions Paul with such visionaries as Liza and Clint Eastwood. : Not exactly pulling out the big guns there, were they?

Yes, that was a lazy reporter who took about 2 seconds to use Google. High-quality journalism.

Awful--you'd think, after reading the article, that Paul was receiving the honor because he is one of the two surviving Beatles. :
-
if i was him i would refuse it till they give us back Calais.
-
Well, good news, and he deserve that kind of medal, because is really THE SONGWRITER, of the last 50 years, and if the article has mentioned The Beatles is because you can't ignore that...Paul was a Beatle. Good for him...I'm

Or as Paul said in that funny video "I'm the only surviving Beatle." Ringo: "What about me?!!"
