Hello, I'm new! And I almost met Paul!
-
Hi. I'm new here, so I thought I would introduce myself. I've been a Beatles fan my entire life, and pretty much everyone in my family is a huge fan, from grandparents to great grandchildren. My Paul related story is as follows: I was with a friend at a vegetarian restaurant in New York City called Otarian a few days ago. We had planned to go there the day before, and we actually went to the wrong intersection at first. (It's on 56th and 8th, not 58th and 8th). It's not a big place, only a few tables to sit down at, and other than my friend and I, there were only 3 people there. I placed my order and went into the restroom. When I came out, I went up to the counter to return the restroom key to the cashier. There was a man and a woman standing in line. I could only see their backs. I kind of had to reach over the man's shoulder to hand the cashier the key. He placed his order and moved back a little bit, and which point I turned around to walk to my table, and to my surprise (and shock) it was Paul McCartney! The first thought I had was "This guy looks familiar..." I guess my brain wasn't processing the fact that he was standing 2 feet away from me. Being on the shy/introverted side, not to mention being starstruck, I didn't say anything to him. I felt like I wanted to say something, but I couldn't think of what to say. I sat down with my friend, and he was still standing, waiting for his food. I was thinking, "Do I get up and ask for a picture? Do I get up and say something to him and shake his hand?" My friend said, "The poor guy probably just wants to order lunch like anybody else." So I ended up not doing anything. I have to admit, I kind of wish I would've at least said a little something. But it is what it is, I suppose. I checked the Facebook site for Otarian later on, and of course they mentioned that Sir Paul had stopped by and ordered a spinach & potato veggie burger. So there you have it!

I love your story. I worked at Tower Records for years and we had a lot of famous people come in and I always told my employees to let them shop in peace and when they checked out they could say something to them if the timing was right. I think it was right you were just an observer. How fun. I would have been a wreck. I'm new here too. I was finally in a position to afford to join the club and I want to splurge and treat myself to a show and possibly get a good seat. I did get to meet Paul when he was recording Broad Street at Air Studios in London. I was visiting there and a pal had told me it was his last weekend there. I checked my bags the minute I got off the plane, went to Oxford Street. Waited around for a few hours. And sure enough he sauntered around the corner on foot towards the studio. I had a very short conversation with him. Believe it or not about Duran Duran, since I was wearing that particular tshirt and he had just met them in the studio. He started it not me. got an autographs and snapped a few pics, unfortunately I'm not in them. But what a fun way to start off my holiday in England. I caught a bus to Liverpool that night and did a Beatle weekend with my pal. good times. I too have been a fan since I was 8 and carried a Beatle lunchbox to school in the 3rd grade. So its been forever. Glad to be here with like minded folks finally. Janet

I feel like I did the right thing at the time. But now, of course, I'm sort of kicking myself for not at least saying hello. But, what can you do, right? I'm actually only 32 years old, so I don't have Beatles memories from the 60's, but I've always been a huge fan, even since I was a little kid. Pretty much everyone on my father's side of the family are all huge Beatles fans. When I was around 4 years old, my favorite song was Eleanor Rigby and Hey Bulldog. But regardless of how old someone is, everyone knows Paul McCartney is a living legend. I'm sure anyone who appreciates music on any level would be honored to meet him.
