Paul as a drummer
-
Okey, so Paul McCartney is probably the best composer/songwriter ever. And is kind of in the top 10 of the best singers ever, best bassists ever.... then there's the guitar playing. What about drums? Ringo is one of the best drummers ever, it might seems like he's underrated but he (Ringo) is very apreciated amongst the best drummers still today. He's #13 on the digitaldreamdoor list about rock drummers.

The Electric Arguments video extras feature some of the best drumming I've ever seen Paul do.

He played drums live a couple of times, on Ain't no sunshine during the Unplugged session and the '93 New World Tour. Remarkable thing is, he is playing drums right handed. Left handed drummers (like Phil Collins) have their drum kit build up the other way round.

what is he using for kind of sliding at the beginning? my fav part is 2.43-2.53 what the heck is that? I like it.

Ringo was left handed but was taught to be right handed and is now ambidextrous. I fought being forced to be right handed. I also fight the stigma against left-handers which is stupid. (and I hate Mel Gibson for the comments he made about it)

Paul uses lefty guitar-picks and drum-sticks. (tee-hee)

Band on the run (Phil Collins wondered who was the drummer when he first heard it) Mrs Vandebilt Helen Wheels his impromptu in Chaos and Creation in Abbey Road Lucille, live video of Paul playing drums to kind of LucillePaul played on "Back In The USSR", all of the drumming on Chaos and most of it on MAF...along with tons of stuff we don't know about. But.....Lennon was pretty much joking/quipping...as he was want to do...when asked if Ringo was the best drummer in the world..and replied, "He's not even the best drummer in The Beatles." He loved Ringo's drumming (and he loved joking); no one has a better backbeat, John often mentioned. The mere fact that Ringo was The Beatles' drummer makes him the best. Period. And would John have wanted him in the first place were he not superb...not to mention Paul and George. They all wanted Ringo in the band.
-
Everyone likes to quote that from Lennon, but I've never found the source for it. If someone has it please post it. However, he is quoted as saying Ringo is the best drummer in the Anthology book and that's a fact.

I wondered what John might've said if asked who was the best singer in The Beatles. Yeah, that's right: I'm "going there."

Well, he called himself the invisible guitarist and George the invisible singer. He might have said Paul. I've read that he didn't like the sound of his voice, and that's why he loved double tracking his vocals and loved having his voice go through a Leslie speaker, and any other tricks Martin could come up with to make him sound different. Personally, I love John's voice, but Macca had better range.
-
John's best vocals -- to my ears -- are "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" and "Yer Blues." Range aside, Paul, in his prime, could sing circles around most male singers on the planet. An amazing ear.

Getting back to the topic: I have no memory of Paul drumming on any songs when I saw The New World Tour in '93. Must've been when Hamish sang "Ain't No Sunshine," which I keep forgetting was done on that tour, as well. ops:

I guess that he would have said that none of them was a great singer or would have said Ringo if he was joking. He didn't like Paul vocals, "he sings like a girl" and all that... he didn't like his own either. So then we have George and Ringo.

As far as I know Paul has never drummed in any concert. Bass, acoustic, piano, synth, electric, mandoline, ukelele but no drums I love it when he plays Petrushka at mandolin. I think he won't record it and will remain unreleased. The best version is on Live in Argentina (in which they take the uptempo finale to a similar beat to the end of Mrs Vandebilt live), but I haven't found it on youtube some
