Purchased tickets to see them in New York. Any fans here?

Not a fan, but they have some good songs. My favorite is "I Wanna Be The One". So brilliant, one of my favorite songs ever, never get tired of hearing it.
-
Really love their (new) song "Some Nights"

Yes, actually! I had the pleasure of seeing them before they "exploded"! March fo this year, just as "We Are Young" was becoming a mega-hit I saw them at The Recher Theatre. NOt the biggest place in the world (I've played there ) And they were fantastic! Very engaging, entertaining, and talented! A fresh new sight on the horizon of modern music, that is for sure! Their first album is MILES better than the second though. I'm afraid they're starting to conform on that one a bit. Most notably, by the use of autotune. But nevertheless, they are still great. When I saw that standalone date at Radio City Music Hall, I was very happy to see them climbing their way up the musical ladder of success. If they do it right, theyll have a 2013 Summer Arena Tour

Jarrett, thanks so much for the feedback, much appreciated!

What about that new band "Fun."? Is their cd really almost the second coming of the Fab Four, it was reviewed in a new Entertainment Weekly mag by a musician in raptures over it, claimed their music lifts her to the highest heights when she's down, that it's the best thing since the Surface tablet by Microsoft, since whipped peanut butter, since Obama's being reelected, you get the idea. Are they really that fantastic? Made me want to get all their music.

Well they only have two albums and as I said before, the first is MUCH better than the second. The second sounds very modern, in a not so good way. BUT, the first ("Aim and Ignite") Sounds much like the Power/Arena/Pop-Rock groups of the 70's...Queen, Electric Light Orchestra etc. maybe even a hint of Beach Boys in some of the harmonies...but not very beatley imo

We attended the Fun. concert last Saturday night, enjoyed every minute! I was quite prepared for an evening of "just here chaperoning my children," but I must admit, I enjoyed their concert very much, they brought the house down at RCMH! Just purchased tickets for their July concert in Philly.

Jarrett, I had forgotten that you had compared Fun.'s sound to the likes of Queen and ELO. As I sat through their concert, I was reminded of Queen and ELO and felt as though some of their songs and performances were reminiscent of those groups. Nate......a powerhouse voice! I was genuinely stunned with his performance! As always, reliable feedback from you, thanks again, very much appreciated!

Glad you had a blast Anita! I got tickets for their show here in MD yesterday and was looking for this thread! It'll be my 2nd fun. concert and at a MUCH bigger venue...however, I'll still be front and center!

Wonderful! I thought of you and wondered if you would be attending when I noted that the Columbia concert is the night after Philly. Hope you have a fantastic time! Looking forward to your report!

I have never heard of Fun (showing how out of touch I am I guess) but if they remind folks of Queen and ELO I will definitely have to check them out. Thanks for the heads up.

Sure thing! They're in that small 10% of modern music I enjoy

Two Grammy Awards, congratulations to Fun.! Enjoyed their performance in the rain.
-
I thought their performance was spectacular! Rock on for NOT playing "we are young" even though that had all the nominations!
-
Pink did a rain effect at a previous awards show a few years back -- but she got the whole audience wet! I don't dislike Fun., but I have yet to experience that moment when their music speaks to me. Hasn't quite happened yet. Lead singer has a heckuva range, though.

yeah I mean their music is cooler than they are, you know? very Weezer. and whats with the name 'fun.' I'll never listen to you just because I don't like the name so much. But I have listened and they just can sound good, they incorporate a lot of stuff I like. Totally regurgitating music and styles other people have done no question most of the time, which is what pop acts have to do. they do have a far out producer, I don't know if its the lead singer? fun. I think its that I don't like having a period in the name, on top of the fact 'fun' is about the worst name ever in its own right

I was shocked that the name hadn't been used. It's the perfect name for a pop rock band. What does everyone like? fun. What does everyone want to have? fun. I could go on for hours...
