It Shouldn't Have Been a Single

Sometimes Paul makes some odd single choices. Which songs do you think should have stayed as album tracks, b-sides or just in the can? Probably the obvious one for me is 'Give Ireland Back to the Irish' but how about you?

-This One -Dance Tonight -Young Boy

From a Lover to a Friend -- lovely song, but not a single (and of course, it got aborted early in favor of Freedom, but that's another story. Tug of War -- another beautiful song that's also not remotely single material. I'm not sure it's fair to blame any of these choices on Paul though. To my knowledge, we have no solid information on to what degree these decisions are his or the record label's.

Is that song available anywhere...on any album? Paul sort of disowns it now, like it doesn't exist; doesn't want to insult the Queen or whatever. I remember rather liking it...the marching-of-soldiers sound and the guitars.

The song has been released as a bonus track on the 1993 remaster of Wild Life.

We All Stand Together. Thank goodness it did not get a US release.

Okay... gotta disagree with most of that list! No More Lonely Nights, Let Em In, With a Little Luck, Another Day... all great singles!! Hi Hi Hi too, with the exception of the song's lyrical content... And Once Upon a Long Ago was certainly not his worst single. And if I'm totally honest, as stupid as "Mary Had a Little Lamb" is, it's very catchy...

Thanks! I guess 'cause I never much liked "Wild Life" I was totally unaware of that. :

haha the lyrics are the only thing i like about hi hi hi (sex, drugs, rock'n'roll... who needs more?); i just can`t stand the music. I think it sounds rather lame for a song wiht THAT lyrical content. Like a - not so good - T.Rex-B-Side from that era... the lyrics of hi hi hi combined with the music of "Mumbo", that would have been a cool song I take "Mary Had A Little Lamb" back... after listening to it now again, i have to admit that it`s really fun

Sorry, but We All Stand Together does not do it for me at all. Although I am sure there are songs of Paul's I like that others can't stand either.

Mary Had a Little Lamb is great!!!! Seriously, I never understood what people have against it. It's a sweet and fun children's song, and I enjoy it far more than three quarters of "Wild Life."
