Native American Burial Site Desecrated!
-
Hickory Ground in Wetumpka, Alabama is now the site of an ongoing battle to enforce the Native American Grave Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). The Poarch Band of Creek Indians desecrated Hickory Ground by digging up several Indian Chiefs and other Muscogee Indian bodies and their sacred funerary objects to build a 20 story casino. Also Wayland Gray, a Muscogee Indian from Oklahoma who dared to protest the Poarch Creeks, who were not a Federally recognized tribe until 1984, has been jailed and his cash bond is set at 30k, for a bogus Terrorist Threat! Wayland Gray and other Muscogee Indian Nationals from Oklahoma, and a Cherokee activist, dared to ask to do a simple religious ceremony to honor the spirits of their Ancestors on Valentine Day 2013, and were turned away from their rightful land. The next day they peacefully protested when 4 of them, including Wayland Gray were arrested and imprisoned in Wetumpka, Alabama. We have no Freedom Of Speech of Alabama. And they were not read their Miranda right's as they were arrested as is customary in the State Of Alabama. Here is an article and I will be updating this page for one's interested in this cause: http://indiancountrytodaymedianetwork.com/2013/02/18/muscogee-man-held-terrorist-threat-charge-attempted-prayer-hickory-ground-147732

I like his statement! Through the Bible and Christianity, you have been so far-removed from what it means to be Indigenous: Respect for your ancestors and ancestral life ways, instruction from the Creator on how to live, respect for the way you walk in this world, love for your one true mother whose name in English in EARTH. . .

Alabama AG steps in to shut down Poarch Creek Casinos! Help from an unlikely source, but Wayland Gray got his attention. Yes, I know this is a federally recognized tribe, although that is subject to review...however maybe it will slow down the desecration of Hickory Ground! http://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com/article/20130219/NEWS/302190025/AG-files-lawsuit-shut-down-Indian-casinos

Update: Video exonerates Mvsokoke Man, Wayland Gray, of Terrorist Charge in Alabama:
*had to update video as the other was not working properly. However Wayland Gray still has to come back to face trial. -
It seems the State of Texas has more compassion for historic Native American Indian burial sites than the State of Alabama. I wish Alabama and or/the Federal Government would step in and protect Hickory Ground in Wetumpka, Alabama: http://www.kfoxtv.com/news/news/state-officials-stop-construction-historical-nativ/nDxz6/ Peace & Love!

thanks so much for the interest butterpie. I am sure you and others were Native American Indians in a past life, if not the present one. Here is the official website on the history and purpose of saving Hickory Ground, (Oce Vpofv), in Wetumpka, Alabama: http://www.savehickoryground.org/ Peace Love & Compassion!

My second childhood sweetheart was a kansas indian girl with the last name of Totem. Her brother and I used to play with the dry ice that their father would bring home occasionaly from working at a cold storage facility in kansas city. We would put pieces of it in a glass of water and watch it bubble back into carbon dioxide. She was sweet! But, we didn't stay in kansas very long and moved back to our home state. Unfortunately, I never saw them again.

Good article on why the Muscogee (Creek) Nation of Oklahoma, and the Poarch Band of Creek Indians in Alabama are at odds with each other: http://indiancountrytodaymedianetwork.com/opinion/rights-vs-identity-divisions-run-deep-over-hickory-ground-148373 Peace, Love & Compassion.

A song to cheer the nation up!
very nice. I had to shut downmy FB page as someone was hacking into it and pretending to be me so it is MUCH harder to know what is going on with my interest in NAI burial sites for now, but I thought this song and video would cheer us up as well: Ghost Dance - Robbie Robertson and the Red Road Ensemble from the album Music for the Native Americans. I love this CD and have had it 4 at least 12 years now:
Peace, Love & Compassion. -
I love that song, kittay There are a lot of Native Americans where I live. One of the universities I attended was originally founded for them. I felt sort of fascinated with their culture and saw that many really are immersed in nature, they revere and adore nature and the land, and the area even seemed to cast a spell over many. Some would leave but almost inevitably be drawn back repeatedly or move back permanently.
