Both ?Everybody Out There? and ?Save Us,? like officially released single ?New,? are undeniably hooky pop gems that find McCartney writing and performing at the top of his game.
Wow, someone drinking the EMI Kool Aid!

Everybody Out There and New are catchy but Save Us is not like that at all it's rather dull, hopefully the recording might improve it's standing.

I'd love to see what a Beatles message board would have been like in late '69: "'Come Together'? Have you heard this?? Total ripoff of 'You Can't Catch Me' by Chuck Berry!" "What's up with 'I Want You'? Isn't this just 'Yer Blues, Part 2'?" "Maxwell's Silver Hammer? Octopus's Garden? 1-2-3-4-5-6-7, all good children go to heaven? What is this, a children's record??" "Why can't Harrison write a real rock song? Now my Mom likes him!" "Look at all these fragments of songs on Side 2! Can't they write a whole song anymore?" "I miss the goodtime Beatles of '64. Why did they get so weird and drugged out?"

Liked Save Us but Everybody Out There sounds very dated. As other have said, its Mrs. Vanderbilt part 2. The "Ho-Hey-Ho"s sounded innovative in 1973, but the "Hey"s in Everybody Out There sounds forced & trite. Sounds like he wrote the song in about 10 minutes.

I don't want to hear these until the album comes out I've only heard "New" once, at the Jimmy Kimmel live concert in Hollywood. It made a good impression on first hearing so that's a good sign...some important embellishments were reportedly left out of that rendition, so I'll still be surprised by the mostly new to me "New" ditty. And all the others That's a Good thing about delayed gratification. It's hard to wait though

The only problem with delayed gratification is that you have to wait for it!

Funny i see Save Us as dated and written quickly, it's to plodding and doesn't flow for me. I'm not sure Ho-Hey-Ho was innovative even back in '73, but i don't think EOT sounds forced it flows naturally for me, but "hey" we all like different things makes life interesting.

Like you said, to each their own. I have said in another post that I think "Everybody Out There" was written to be a concert song. The "Hey" is just attempt to get audience participation and that is fine with me. I kind of liked "Save Us", thought it rocked. I will be interested in critical reviews of "New" and thoughts on the songs we have already heard.

I've read two good reviews here in the music mags Q and Uncut, Q gives it 4 stars out of 5 and Uncut says 7 out of 10. Uncut says the album contains 5 outstanding songs, funny enough it's none of the 3 we've heard already so that bodes well.

I think 'hooky pop' is a great description for the intial single 'New' - because despite not being all that crazy about it, it's still firmly embedded in my head as we speak...LOL Regarding these latest two songs, I do like the feel of them, although I need them to sink in a little more before I can stake claim to 'liking' them But as far as the first song 'New', I don't know why (because the two songs are nothing alike), but it almost sounds to me as if Paul lifted the recorded vocal track from 'Heaven on a Sunday' and spliced it to a faster moving music track...when I sit and reasonably consider this though, I know it's actually far off base - but I can't help feeling that way,,,LOL

7 of 10 is not that great actually, would have hoped for at least an 8.. 7's not getting people to run out and buy it. unfortunately.

Ratings can be misleading sometimes, would like to read the content and then make my judgement.

Really like that Uncut says that the album has 5 outstanding songs and none of them are the 3 we're heard. I personally like all 3 so if "New" has 7 or 8 outstanding songs, that would make it a very good album for Paul. Just think about Paul's very best albums...tpically they would have anywhere from 6 to 8 outstanding songs.
