Should I get Live at the BBC?
-
OK, don't get mad at me, but do y'all think I should get Live at the BBC Vols. 1 (and then 2 when it comes out)? I do tend to get lots of Beatles/Paul stuff, but I don't get EVERYTHING that get is put out to the marketplace. For example, I have the Anthology, but not the Blue and Red albums. I just don't like to get duplicates of music I pretty much already have. I'd just like to hear from everyone if they think it's different enough from studio releases to be worth purchasing.

I would get both volumes. Many of the songs were never done by them in the studio and the discs are full of rarities. Also, the songs they did release on record are all done live, so they sound different enough to be interesting. There's also interviews and lots of funny bits. The Beatles on radio was part of their history, and it's great these have been released. Definitely a must for any Beatles collection!

Thanks Randy! I was able to find all of volume 1 on YouTube and there were quite a few songs I'd never heard before. I'll have to put it on the Christmas list!

Remember that these tracks were recorded on mainly the first take and only intended to be broadcast ed once, and as such they are very rough and ready, and you'll enjoy them for what they are. 34 tracks on each disc and be a bit much but pick and take and you'll enjoy the collections.

Definitely get them! It's our chance to come closest to what it must have been like to see them when they were still a club band. The conversations are fun to listen to, also. It also shows just how great a real band they were, and how versatile. Also surprising but nice to hear George used to do a lot more singing than later on. I love all that early stuff!
-
Absolutely get them. The red and blue albums have nothing you don't already have. These two double albums have about 120 songs or versions of songs you don't already have. Completely different ballpark!
-
This new collection is a must have. I would have been happy if it was released over 15 years ago when the other one was available. But its great news to get to hear all those lost radio broadcasts

Absolutely, but don't be disappointed if everything isn't quite as high standard as you're used to. I'm looking forward to hearing Volume Two, but my expectations aren't that high, so I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised!
-
If it's half as good as the '94 release, then I really, really need to buy this one, too.

Martin posted the link on the other thread. Sounding pretty fantastic to me. Beatles at their best, exactly the way they sounded back in the day I owned every album except the white album, which was not my fav. Grew up on The Beatles. I love the not so polished versions. As someone said, shows just how good they were outside the studio. Very much looking forward to bringing these home. Will get lots of play at my house.

The BBC 1 will not be the exact version as the one in '94, in that while it is remastered, they didn't remaster the '94 tapes done/mixed by George Martin; they went back to the original BBC tapes and started over from there. So, there will be subtle differences.

And the White Album is my favorite, in that it has so much variety.

I'll get mine at Starbuck's. Both of 'em. NEW was $12.95 there. Lower than Amazon.

You are right about that! Actually, the only reason I didn't buy it on vinyl was because I hadn't gotten around to it before my collection was stolen in college. After that, I was shell shocked for a while and didn't buy any albums for several years. I do love that album, though.

Yes. Definately. I have volume 1 and it's great to hear the songs performed "live".

Many of the tracks actually sound very polished TBH

I love this CD set! Been listening in the car to & from work! It is so neat to hear a live version of familiar Beatle songs and then the ones they never recorded are cool too!

Is it the BBC? Where'd you get it? Amazon?
-
Wow. I almost ordered it on Amazon but just went to Fred Meyer and they had it on sale for $15.99! They didn't even have it advertised.
