"If Lennon Auditioned for The Voice"

In the Comedy section at Huffington Post is a thing about if John Lennon auditioned for 'the Voice,' supposed to be funny. "He'd be getting singing tips from Shakira," etc.

Don't forget that while we get caught up in X-Factor and The Voice type shows the Beatles did enter the equivalent type instant fame shows of their time. They were not shy into trying to hitch a ride to fame. They tried out a couple of times for Carroll Levis's TV Star Search in regional heats. While not as brutal as today's shows I'm sure, on those nights back then, the excitements, rejections and triumphs were just as equally bruising. They even went over to Manchester for a final round of TV Star Search (15th November 1959), did well and were called to the stage for the audience "clapometer" vote", which determined the final outcome, but had already left the venue preferring to catch the last bus home rather than be stranded in Manchester overnight. Just one of the many twists and turns of fate woven into the fabric of their legendary story. Martin

If that is the one of John doing Imagine from the Lew Grade special, it is very funny...pure satire.... it's not making fun of John, it is making fun of this whole "reality TV" concept... very clever.... it could have been John or Paul or Elvis as the centrepiece. "Elvis, you've got to do something about that top lip. It'll never catch. And as for that hip gyration thing." I hate reality TV. Like, I detest it. More scripted than twenty guys around a table cobbling together a Seinfeld or a Cheers master episode.

Me and a couple others have also come to the conclusion it makes musicians who have battled through a heap of tough times and failure look like complete idiots. apparently all you have to do is wait in a line for 3 hours and now your a musician. stuff all of the artists who practiced for so so long to get to the big time, all you have to do to get a one hit wonder is wait in a line for 3 hours. Plus its so so rigged. Theres a magical thing called a pitch microphone. it can make ANYONE sound perfect or terrible. all you have to do is tell everyone that you live on the streets and your parents died and you are now a musician. how do I know this? I know some sound technicians who work on theses shows that say they have to make these people sound good or bad. I just think that if you want to make something great, waiting in a line for 3 hours isn't how you are going to do it, its how you are going to destoy the representation of all musicians. Countless hours of practice is the way to do it.

You just encapsulated every "artist" who was in the stable of Stock, Aitken and Waterman! The original pioneers of "non-musicianship". I feel for the real musicians who don't get a record deal because they don't have the right look or won't succumb to a man or woman in the suit like a trained monkey. (And I'm not one of them... I learnt guitar so I could strum a few Beatles/INXS/Elvis songs... I am a hack) And... the worse thing about reality TV.... is the judges.... who are every bit as pathetic as the fodder they are judging! It'll turn. Hopefully.
