Meet the Beatles secretary - "Good Ol' Freda"
-
This is slightly OT, but I just go to the part in "Tune In" about The Beatles' "#1 Fan" (their "1st fan") I don't have the book in front of me but her name was Pat Moran I think. Anyway, in 1960 she used to bring them food on Sundays and she wrote to Paul (and included a SASE so he'd write back--he did) and she'd send them pound notes because she knew they were broke and she had a job. She said Paul & she were "just mates" but he'd hold her hand if they walked down the street and he treated her nice. She said she was sure there were plenty of girls who would "put out" for them, but she said she was a virgin when she got married in her twenties. Sweet anecdote. There are lots of these gems in Lewisohn's book.

Super anecdote Nancy! I think Pat died not too long ago.

I wish Paul would totally come clean about his real self in the real world. His PR is overboard, it makes him seem like a god more than a human. This is kind of old fashioned, not NEW, politically correct but kind of boring. When he was younger he was more outspoken no matter what people said, I like that better. Don't shoot!

This is a great interview of Freda: (even though she says Paul is 72!) http://beatlesexaminer.podbean.com/2013/12/21/things-we-said-today-65-an-interview-with-freda-kelly/

She's been on the radio...well a taped interview...with the dj on Chicago's Breakfast with the Beatles for the last couple weeks. This DJ is host at the Beatlesfest too.

Problem is: Paul says something new and people accuse him of revisionism.

He could at least say something that nobody has heard before. These same old stories during his concerts are a drag ("a well-known drag")

Paul plays "Kite" in concert und tells how he remembers helping John with the song. People complain all over the intenet "THIS IS A JOHN SONG! How does Paul dare to say he helped!"
-
It IS a John song. It NEEDS John's voice...IMO. Why can't Paul do his own solo material? He's got soo much he has not done live.

If people would listen to Paul's explanation, he says that he & John sat and looked at the poster and alternately came up with phrases "There will be a show tonight on trampoline!" "Over men & horses, hoops and garters..." etc. So Paul did help write the song. But that being said, I agree with oobu that he has so many songs of his own, he should have done one of them (Another Girl, What You're Doing, When I'm 64) (or 74?)--if he felt he had to do a Beatles song. Or...do one of his solo songs like No More Lonely Nights or Beautiful Night. (the list goes on...)
-
Of course, I agree he should play more of his recent songs in concert.

Folks - this DVD/Blu-ray is a gem! The Commentary is almost like another movie within a movie - so much more depth insights. I saw this at a theatre but it is definitely meant for home viewing. This is truly the last great Beatles documentary!

Just saw today that this has been added to Netflix. I will finally get the chance to watch it!
