Hello from Kent

I've always liked Paul McCartney's music but never listened to all his albums (although I have always loved Press to Play and Flowers in the Dirt). After the release of New, which was excellent, I started buying them, and so far have been pleasantly surprised. So far I have listened to McCartney, Ram, Memory Almost Full and Chaos and Creation in the Back Yard (as well as those already mentioned). I have just ordered McCartney II. Hopefully that will be good too.

Hi Wyrdskein! Welcome to the messageboard! Glad to hear the NEW has succeed you into the world of Paul's more recent albums. I think you'll find overtime that they are greatly underrated and, as many have said, he seems to be going through a "late career creative peak" that, thankfully, doesn't seem to be drying up. About McCartney II: as a heads us, its generally considered a very quirky album. Like McCartney I, its largely experimental and homemade effort to creatively renew himself after the collapse of a massively successful band and gearing for the next phase of his solo career. Nonetheless, there are some beautiful, deep classic Paul ballads that are among his best (i.e. Waterfalls, One Of These Days). Curious to hear your opinion of it after the first few listens... We're glad to have you with us and look forward to seeing what you bring to the mix.

Welcome Wyrdskein! I don't know how much disposable income you have, but after you go through the Wings and solo stuff, do you already have The Beatles albums? If not, they are a must!

Thanks for the replies. I don't want to be controversial, but I have never really been a Beatles fan. I have always preferred McCartney solo, and a few of the Wings albums (which I listened to many moons ago). I'm willing to give The Beatles another listen though. Regarding McCartney II. The idea of it being 'experimental' attracts me to it more. I've found that Paul is often at his best when in this mode. Thanks again.

I've been listening to McCartney II for a while now, and I do like it. It's very eclectic: old-fashioned rock n roll, soft ballads, and experimental synth tracks. It wouldn't be at the top of my favourites list, but I have enjoyed it.
