Pete Seeger

Didn't see this posted anyplace else on the Forum. Pete Seeger, the great folk singer/activist, died Monday at age 94.
-
He was one of the most influential songwriters in the 20th century. Many famous artists covered his songs. God Bless His Beautiful Soul!
-
Seeger was a great songwriter and a brave soul who always stood up for what he thought was right, even when it put him at great risk. He wasn't perfect (like many U.S. lefties in the '40s, he was slow to catch on to what a monster Stalin was), but the world is a better place because Pete Seeger lived in it. Hail and farewell.

We've kept up with even his most recent CDs. He never gave up on trying to make the world a better place, and I think he succeeded too.

If I Had a Hammer and Turn!Turn!Turn! were introduced to me by other artists, but the writer remains the same--Pete Seeger. He put heart and conviction in his songs mixed with truth, and they still resonate today. Thanks, Pete Seeger, for those great songs.

I've always loved this song:

I like this song the band the Alarm do a great cover Oh what will you give me? Say the sad bells of Rhymney. Is there hope for the future? Cry the brown bells of Merthyr. Who made the mine owner? Say the black bells of Rhondda. And who robbed the miner? Cry the grim bells of Blaina. They will plunder will-nilly, Cry the bells of Caerphilly. They have fangs, they have teeth, Shout the loud bells of Neath. Even God is uneasy, Say the moist bells of Swansea. And what will you give me? Say the sad bells of Rhymney. Throw the vandals in court, Say the bells of Newport. All will be well if, if, if, Cry the green bells of Cardiff. Why so worried, sisters why? Sang the silver bells of Wye. And what will you give me? Say the sad bells of Rhymney?
