Did Paul's Voice Really Change?
-
My mother and my friend Randy say that Paul's voice change a little since he is up there in age. They did not mean it in a bad way but as their opinion I think. However I do not see much of a change in Paul's voice. Maybe I listened to Paul music so much that I don't see much of a change in his voice. Does anyone else here say the same?
-
You have got to be kidding! Paul's voice, both his speaking and singing, has changed dramatically since around the year 2000 or so. In speaking, it is deeper and more "old man" sounding. He can still belt out the rockers like Helter Skelter, but on the ballads, what a change! He insists on singing everything in the same key as the originals and has to strain (and usually fails) to hit the high notes. Please get on youtube and do some comparisons and you'll see. He doesn't sound the same at all.
-
I guess mens voices get deeper and change as they get older. But I thought he sounded great on his "New" album. True he probably can't hit those high notes anymore I would imagine. I dunno I thought he always sounded the same to me. ops:
-
Rumor has it that he may have had the same throat surgery that Adele did. But no...he does not sound the same.
-
Really? I didn't hear about that about Paul maybe having surgery done on his throat? I need to keep up with news on Paul on his blogs. But whether or not Paul's voice has changed everybody still loves him. And that's a good thing. I think he still sounds pretty well for his age. I pay it no mind with how his voice sounds. I think he sounds just fine to me.
-
I've been listening to Paul's singing and speaking voice for 50 years and my opinion is that it has changed a LOT, as would anyone's over that time span. You also have to remember that Paul used to be a heavy smoker which affects the vocal cords.
-
Im wondering if that is why my mom does not like Paul's "New" album because of the sound of his voice? She didn't say why. But I love Paul and his music and the sound of his voice. But yeah I guess you guys are right his voice did change now that I think about it but I still pay it no mind. Paul will always be Paul.

I get so mad that some people make such a big deal about Paul's voice. It's still Paul, I have grown up loving his music and his voice. My voice has also changed as I get older, as does my aunts and uncles and it will happen to everyone!! To me I still love them the same because that's who they are now. I would never dream of judging them because of their voice... how silly that thought is to me. I really don't notice it that much with Paul, hardly ever really... and when I'm at a Paul concert, I become the 11 year old girl who first heard him sing and fell in love with the songs and voice and great person that he is. That will never change for me. Sing on Sir Paul you make so many people happy!!! Thank you for bringing the joy of your songs all over the world You are truly amazing!!

There are definitely moments when you can tell he is straining. But I still love him regardless and am grateful he is still making music and sharing it with us - especially live where there is nowhere to hide!

I don't know about the others here, but I am not "judging" Paul because of his voice and there is no need for you to get mad. I was merely surprised that anyone would not think his voice and/or singing has changed over the years. I still love the guy, love the entire NEW album, and I continue to spend way too much money to see him in concert.

Here on this board. Oh my...there have been so many "voice" threads on this board. Maybe you can do a search for it if you are interested. It was sometime last year before that tour started. I know it was after the Queen's Jubilee. And of course we all love Paul & love to see him in concert. No one is raggin on him here.
-
Listen to Back in the US and YouTube videos of him performing live from 2010 to now; in 12 years it has changed a lot. He did not strain noticibly until 2005 and even more so in the recent years.
-
So what if it's changed?
-
I love Paul's voice.
-
^ that is not the question. The question was did it change.
-
There's no doubt he had lost some of his voice, but for his age he preserves it admirably. I remember last time I saw him live, in 2002 I realized he was preserving his voice for the more difficult moments, where he did an extra effort. If You listen carefully You can realize he has more difficulty with doing such a huge variety of sounds, but he still has one of the best voices one can have ever had.
-
Back in early 2001, just prior to recording Driving Rain, Paul was on holiday in India where he developed a throat condition which caused him to lose his voice for a while. With hindsight I think Paul's more throatier spoken and singing voice stems from that illness.

^^ okay the question: Did Paul's voice change over the years? Yes, it has changed over the years. It has been over 50 years he has been recording music. Paul can change his voice in everyday life to sound different so that would be nothing new. i.e. > Gladys Jenkins
