Beatles Interviews
-
Just wanted to ask people what their favourite Beatles Interviews are. I have been watching many religiously... Some of my faves are the "Mockers' interview of 1964, and the Los Angeles Press Conference of 1966...
-
The press conference in Chicago 1966 when John Lennon gave his explanation of the "bigger than Jesus" quote and sort of apologized with tongue in cheek. It's priceless, especially when one reporter asks them what it's like being almost like "gods on earth", and Lennon said "See I didn't say that. Now you all saw that."; and all the reporters laughed. You realize how crazy and serious it got at the same time. No wonder they stopped touring. Quite amazing.

My favorite is the one where they're asked about Norwegian Wood and Day Tripper, where Paul says they were just writing songs about prostitutes and lesbians!
-
Yeah, that is one of my favourites... I felt sorry for the American reporters though, as they seemed to misinterpret what The Beatles were saying. Like George's comment about getting "beaten up' by Americans... During 1964 and 1965, they also had a sort of in- joke between them all. Like they would shout out "correct" or make comments about 'silly sausage" and break out into fits of laughter. It's quite funny how amused they were by it. If I can find the link I will post it..

Japanese press conference with John showing his humorous side with the press...go to 00:30 sec mark.
-
KEN GARY: "Some Japanese say that your performances will violate the Budokan which is devoted to traditional Japanese martial arts, and you set a bad example for Japanese youth by leading them astray from traditional Japanese values. What do you think of all that?" PAUL: "The thing is that if somebody from Japan-- If a dancing troupe from Japan goes to Britain, nobody tries to say in Britain that they're violating the traditional laws, you know, or that they're trying to spoil anything. All we're doing is coming here and singing because we've been asked to." JOHN: "Better to watch singing than wrestling, anyway." PAUL: "Yeah. We're not trying to violate anything. Umm, we're just as traditional, anyway." I found the 1966 interview above very interesting, in that on three different occasions since then (1975, 1980, and 2014) all plans by Paul to perform at the Budokan were foiled...quite amazing!
