Souvenir

I have been listening to a lot of Paul solo over the last few weeks. One song that just knocks me out is Souvenir from Flaming Pie. I remember liking it when the album came out but now I think it is a killer song from beginning to the great fade out at the end. I like the way the song fuses different styles...Soul, R&B and Rock especially. Paul's vocals also nail these styles. I always liked many of Paul's soulful type songs. I still remember the first time I heard "Let It Be" on the radio in my little Volkwagon Beetle. It just blew me away. Just curious what others think of Souvenir. If you were like me and hadn't listened to it in a long time, you should give it a try.

Love it and the entire album. It always helps to give a link so we all can listen...

Agreed, the whole album is excellent. Souvenir does seem to be an example of how he is not afraid to fuse styles. I get the impression that being an ex-Beatle has given him a lot more freedom to experiment, rather than sticking to one recognisable sound, as most artists do. Solo and with Wings the albums are very varied throughout, which is a big plus point in my eyes.

With Beautiful Night, the best song on the album. And one of his best of the 90's. A cracker. I love this song. In fact, off I go to listen to it again.

I liked the song right away....but the ending took me awhile to get used to.....my first reaction was "Couldn't they just end the song without making it sound like some ancient record hissing and the needle just not lifting?"

Not my favorite on Flaming Pie -- maybe #4 or so -- but I like it a lot.
-
Flaming Pie is a masterpiece, IMO, and Souvenir is one of the strongest tracks on it. I agree with you...love this song!

Flaming Pie is a masterpiece. Not a bad song on it.

Although I wish I could find Tug of War or Red Rose Speedway in there.

My fave on the album (along with The World Tonight), love it.

I can't decide which song is best, as I listen they just get better and better!!

It's always been my 3rd favorite song on Flaming Pie (after Beautiful Night and Calico Skies). What a vocal!! A stand-out song, on a heck of an album.

"Souvenir" is definitely my favorite on that album. "Calico Skies" is a close second.
