Sam Smith is the "Male Adele"?
-
British Sam Smith ("Stay With Me") sings with so much depth, soul and emotion that someone online claimed he is the "male version" of Adele. Should they perform a duet together or even an entire album together, or would that be too much, in a way. Each of their voices may be so incredible, so singular that each deserves all the song time to themselves (?).

Tom Petty will receive some of the royalties from Smith's hit "Stay With Me," it was announced yesterday. "Stay With Me" was ruled to have similarities to "Won't Back Down" by Tom Petty. Some of it sounds alike, I think Not the whole thing.
-
As soon as I heard about this and it sounding like a Petty song, I knew which one it was. On the nightly news, they told the story, but played the wrong part of I Won't Back Down and said "you be the judge".

I thought I read somewhere that Petty was OK with it. Oh well...Publishers! :

Does that make Adele the female Jeff Lynne?

"People Like Pop Stars to Be Gay"--online article...it doesn't seem to hurt popularity very much. Sam Smith made a point of thanking his male ex-lover for inspiring Smith's award winning album to come into fruition. All or most songs are about his ex boyfriend. How is anybody really shocked by the existence of gay people anymore? There are so many gay people and always have been. Of course they shouldn't be hated by bigots and discriminated against. I've heard it said that children are confused when they see same-sex couples...but children will just have to get used to it and understand it, it's so common. I recall I freaked when my friend Karen told me about gay guys. We were walking down some railroad tracks or out in the country or something. When we were children. I remember gasping out," but how do they have children?" (LOL) Sam Smith doesn't appeal to me (his looks). Maybe if he grew out his hair longer that would help. His incredible voice supersedes his plain appearance, of course. And triumphs over all. I did hear one song of his on the radio that sounded boring. Listening to radio today while driving I heard right many songs that appealed to me in some ways.

These comparisons to Adele need to stop. Sam Smith doesn't have a fraction of the singing-voice that Adele has. Singing entire songs in falsetto -- above pitch -- is NOT a good thing.

Sam Smith has quit his current tour saying his vocal chords are "in bloody shreds" and it might take "years to recover." Yikes. Online gossip links Smith romantically to Ed Sheeran, btw, says they're an item. Two bits of surprising news (if true) about Sam Smith today.
