Up until last night, I thought mine was when I nearly drowned kn Corfu in 2000 It's been overtaken by the horrendous plane trip last night. It was awful. I know turbulence isn't pleasant, and I'm used to that, but this was a whole other world of terrifying. I actually thought I was going to die I'm considering a ferry to Liverpool for Macca's gig..never want to get on a plane again xxxxx

I almost got hit by a cab in London in 1993 when I forgot to look right. It was a close one. His brakes squealed a foot away from me. Then I was on a plane going from Phoenix to Atlanta in 1995 that took 2 big dives down (like a rollercoaster only worse) and one of the flight attendants was injured. They had an ambulance waiting for her in Atlanta. Scared the crap out of me!

Just remember, the pilot doesn't want to die either!! Have flown in the cockpit numerous times, and they check and recheck everything. Sometimes they just can't find a smooth altitude....was on a flight like that, the plane was bucking like a mechanical bull!! After not being able to find smooth air, they were telling me it was the amusement ride special!! BTW pilots can press their noses to the windshield to see better too! That was not the worse flight tho, I was flying to Hawaii in the back. The pilot came on the loudspeaker, and said there was no way around the very bad storm. We were in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, and we just had to dive through it! After everyone was instructed to buckle in tight, everything was put in the bins....we dove through the storm like a rocket, the plane was making a howling sound....then it would DROP thousands of feet with your stomach left in the air, somewhere... We must have had it where we dropped down BAM and then caught again, over and over....the plane shaking all over. People were crying it went on for what seemed like forevvvvveeeeerrrr and then we dropped below the clouds, the runway, was right there....and we landed!! And hey, I was in Hawaii... I think many of us headed over for a tropical drink after the luggage pickup. Didn't feel good about getting on again, to fly home...but that flight was smooth and so it goes... It is very safe, much safer than your car..

"Just remember, the pilot doesn't want to die either" Yeah, but after that idiot pilot Andreas Lubitz "committed suicide" and took 149 people with him, you can't be sure!

that could unfortunately happen anywhere... As a whole, pilots are usually very stable, consistent and even keeled, along the lines of Engineers or Doctors. This guy was definitely not the norm...it could happen in any job! So sad for those people! He wanted to become famous, that's why I feel that anyone who kills people like that, should not have their picture shown, nor their name shown, just initials. http://www.airlinepilotcentral.com/articles/news/the-pilot-personality.html

I have been through a lot of terrifying times in my life. But the most terrifying time I have ever experienced is living in Terrorism in the state of Alabama right now and for the past number of years.

Having throat and tongue go numb at dentist -couldn't swallow or talk or keep water from going down the wrong pipe and choking. Only lasted about 2 hours, but thought I might not be able to breathe normally. Neck and part of my arm went numb too.scary thoughts of paralysis.

When my ex threatened to "finish me off" right in front of a small child nearly 14 years ago. I stood up to the creep & am lucky I'm still here.

Almost being hit by a taxi in London in 1993. (my fault--forgot to look right!)

Hmmm...I've had a few moments. When I was four years old, my ten year old Brother built a homemade wagon out of wood. This was in the country with a pasture behind the sloping back yard, separated by a barbed wire fence. My Brother had me get on the wagon, and he tied me on with a rope so I wouldn't fall off. And then he let the wagon roll down the slope towards the barbed wire fence. I had no way to stop it and I couldn't jump off because I was tied to it. The barbed wire was at my face height and in front of my eyes, and if I hadn't placed my hands over ,my eyes, I would have lost one of them. As it turned out, I gashed the back of my hand which I covered my right eye with, and received second degree gashes to my right facial cheek which required several stitches to close. A few of my upstairs neighbors are/were Hollywood slugs who then decided to haze me in my own apartment below them. They deprived sleep by executing bowling balls on the ceiling above me everywhere that I tried to get some sleep. The management refused my complaints. I was not the head of house. Because of the sleep deprivation, I quit working. I couldn't work. This got so bad that by 1985 I one night collapsed from a heart attack caused by a perforated ulcer. They let me sleep it off. I passed out, actually. While screaming. Two weeks later, I was ashen. I had no insurance and no medical care, and so I didn't know about the ulcer. I thought it was heart disease. My stomach hurt, so I decided to gag myself, and when I did, I upchucked a large ball of coagulated blood with fresh crimson cracks in it. Like a large sponge. The stomach acid was so concentrated that when it came up, it produced smoke and second degree burns immediately on the back of my tongue and throat. The lady upstairs spoke through the ceiling above me as I threw up in my bathroom. She taunted, "Don't throw up!". And then she snickered. Typical for them. I have since figured out that they had been borrowing songs from me without my knowledge. They were eavesdropping to get them, and that they had recording contracts with some other folks. And that my Uncle-by-marriage had lied about his occupation. He was one of the Warner Bros. A total B******.

My mother dying in front of me, not very long ago, followed not long after by my sister being diagnosed with a serious chronic illness. A one-two punch.

Being within about 300 yards of an F4 tornado. I watched it form in the southwestern sky from the top of the bleechers at a horse racing track. There were 5,000 people there that day. It was headed straight for the track, but was diverted by an upper air disturbance that made it pass about two blocks or so to the west of us. There was a Xerox building just south of us that had a tall flagpole with a big U.S. flag on it. When the tornado got straight west of the flagpole, the flag pulled taught by the wind, suddenly jerked the pole over about 30 to 40 degrees toward the tornado. There were 2 to 3 big tugs and then the flag and pole snapped back upright and that is when my heart started pounding. It was a very miraculous day although. The storm passed through the city and became the financially costliest tornado in U.S. history, yet only 3 people were killed.

Being in the Sylmar '71 and the Northridge '94 earthquakes. The Northridge Earthquake was like being in the Titanic movie. A total power blackout followed and All the lights went out and we were in total darkness, with aftershocks. Our homes and apartments were damaged with broken timbers and dangling stairwells that snapped from their moorings, and we had to exit promptly into the cold at about 4:38 A.M.

Between your other post and this one, I think you've definitely had your fair share of terrifying moments! Maybe you need to move out of California!

Naw. The accident with the barbed wire was near Ford City, Pa., about 45 miles from the location of the original Warner Bros. Studio. I just need to move away from those "Sunset Grill" folks. But they call themselves "family". As an example of the power that these folks wield in Los Angeles, where I graduated from high school, our graduating Class of 1972 Mascot was "Dudley Do-Right". This was years after that cartoon character had disappeared from television, and he was an odd choice because he wasn't cool at all. By sheer coincidence, my Uncle's nickname was "Dudley". He lived near us in Pennsylvania, also about 45 miles from the location of the studios. Since then, the rights to the "Rocky and Bullwinkle" characters, including "Dudley Do-Right", have been bought by Warner Bros. All coincidence, however, I've had a ton of my stuff passed to them behind my back, and I'm not even a musician. The family discouraged formal training. I'm a strummer and a keyboard banger, and I sometimes get lucky. They call themselves "family" and behave like they own the world and everyone in it, impossible to ignore. And they won't talk about it.
They just don't do right by my standards. -
I saw the food at McDonald's once. Scared the s**t out of me.

I have a few terrifying experiences in my life....but I'm certain being in the midst of an earthquake would be very terrifying. Two experiences I had was beyond my control: a gun being held to my face from an ex and being in the midst of the 9/11 attacks and watching all the lives that were taken away that day in full view. I live across the river from where the twin towers once stood. But a terrifying experience I just recently encountered was in my control. I just recently came back from Puerto Vallerta Mexico a few weeks ago and I decided to go "extreme" zip lining. Mind you, I've never done it before. But just imagine going on 11 zip lines over the Canopy River in Puerto Vallerta where the highest point was approx. 62 stories high and the longest zip line length was 1/4 mile long. I feared that day of falling. But I took it upon myself to do it (11 different heights); so I have no one to blame but myself. It was scarey but there was no way around it other than to do all the zip lines. It was quite a feat. Had my eyes closed most of the time. However, I did hold on to dear life. Would I do it again?? Not too sure. Lol. My other greatest fear is drowning. Probably why I've never gone on a cruise ship. I've gone on many skiffs, canoes, fishing, party and tour boats; but never a ship. Go figure lol!

That is funny. Modern cruise ships are a million times bigger than a canoe. The only way you're going to drown on a cruise ship is if there's an accident in one of the swimming pools.
