Pacino Flick Sparked by A John Letter
-
Al Pacino's new movie gives him a role as a former big rock star, who gets rejuvenated and inspired when a long lost 1970 letter from John Lennon, to him, is found. The letter encouraged and praised the musician. Lennon was his favorite musician. The movie is based on a true story.

I just read about it. Saw the handwritten letter. Can't wait to see the movie this week!
-
I found the movie trailer for Danny Collins:
-
As an old songwriter who never made it, I really want to see this!
-
This looks good! Thanks for sharing.
-
Looks like a good film.
-
I'm not sure I want to see Pacino singing anymore.
-
looks like a great movie! I got a little emotional reading that handwritten letter from John, such uplifting words from John to a fellow artist. Gotta love John.
-
I have been looking to see what theatres are showing this movie and what time. Not found it yet... Read it was released today.

You know that wasn't the actual letter, right? John wrote to Steve Tilston. The original letter is in The John Lennon Letters by Hunter Davies on p. 227 and is signed "John & Yoko." http://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/15/movies/the-letter-from-john-lennon-behind-danny-collins.html?_r=0 The fake letter was slightly different: http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=danny+collins+movie&id=6AC92798F2B32BD602938F676A64A6B7A8F83C8F&FORM=IARRTH#view=detail&id=6AC92798F2B32BD602938F676A64A6B7A8F83C8F&selectedIndex=0

I guess I'll have to see the movie, but somehow Pacino doesn't strike me as an "aging Rock hero" type. Hoffman or Robert Redford maybe. Could be good though.

I think Pacino can pull it off. How is this a true story? The trailers show an aging, but successful, performer who "sold out". Who is this a depiction of in real life? I know John wrote a letter to someone, but is that all that's "real"?
-
Nothing is real...and nothing to get hung about! I think it is a lot of fantasy with a bit of history. Just think historical fiction!

Thanks. So, its basically all made-up, after a small event that actually happened. How can the movie claim its based on a true story?

Because it is "based on a true story." You know, artistic license and all that?

I like some of those location shots in LA. That was real deal. When he was standing in parking lot looking at billboard.... that was old tower records parking lot. Right below Ringo's rented house... john and Harry got drunk at troubadour very near there..the location shots at least. Were real. Pacino was great as Spector...I agree for this character maybe Dustin Hoffman.ohvwell

In the letter, what does John say right after "I've been rich and poor" and before the parenthesis ("rich - poor - rich") near the end?, can't make it out.

Since the movie is "open everywhere April 10," hopefully I can see it where I live.
