-
I have just came back from Liverpool & Best Fest 5. This was held @ THE Casbah Where Paul,John,George & Ken Brown first played as the Beatles. Pete Best the Beatles' first drummer was there with his band this night. Paul it is too bad you did not show up. We had a great night. Your former Quarrymen band mates Len Garry,John Duff Lowe,Colin Hanton & Rod Davis also played too. Pete would haved loved to see you again Paul. You could be my best friend or.....

Were any of Stu and Astrid's fans and friends there? Didn't Astrid give us the early beatle haircut?

Yes, Astrid gave Stu the Beatle haircut and the rest (except Pete) followed suit.

Actually, Jurgen Vollmer gave John and Paul the haircut when they visited him in Paris on John's 21st birthday trip.

"Haymans Green", the studio album Pete Best released with The Pete Best Band in 2008 I think is pretty good. I've played it quite a lot. I bought it mostly out of curiosity and was pleasantly surprised. McCartney and Best may well jam together for my part, it could be fun... but only of joy not of guilt. I don't think it's going to happen.

Just saw this and you are right (confirmed by Tune In by Mark Lewisohn) I hadn't read it when I made my original post!

I was at the 2013 Best Fest and will never forget that incredible day. I met the Quarry Men at the garden behind the house (before the show), took pictures and got their autographs. I also met Pete Best inside the Casbah after the show. We talked about his experiences in Brazil, he signed my ticket & book and we took several pictures together. A nice guy who was very generous to his fans.

What if Pete Best joined Ringo on one of his All-Starr Band tours? It had to have been a kind of sensation. Ringo and Pete drum duelling on "Love Me Do"...

You must realize that is never going to happen!

I met him in Cancun on a Beatles trip in 2014 (5 nights at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya) and he was super nice. Got a signed (used) drumstick. Hung out with him, his brother Roag and the band one night for about 3 hours. I now know why he was replaced by Ringo--he just was not a "Beatle" mentally, emotionally, physically. In 3 hours I think he said 3 words! Roag and I hit it off and talked a lot. He has twins as do I.

No I don't think so. But it could have been fun, if they had thought it would be fun. But then they had probably done it already.

That is so cool Nancy!! I always think it's great that Roag is Neil's son. Must have made family meet ups a bit awkward though with Neil being blood with John Paul George and Ringo, but also becoming blood relations with Pete! IIRC he was Pete's best mate which is how he got the job with the guys in the first place.

I have never met anyone Beatles associated, or what to call it. In a way it could have been fun to have a chat, from McCartney to Pete Best, but it would perhaps have been more like an interview anyway, and I'm not good at holding a conversation. I'd probably say something that was meant funny, but it comes out wrong and... No, I stick to their records... and concerts.

I had met Roag before in 2011 (he gives the tours of the Casbah) and when I first saw him again in 2014 he immediately says "I know you!" I couldn't believe he remembered me!

I believe none of the Beatles have spoken with Pete since 1962. Pete has taken it in good stride considering the circumstances. At least he got his huge payday with Anthology 1.

A strange situation. No one could have predicted what would happen. They got a record deal after many rejections. No one in the music industry believed in them. Someone said "Love Me Do" needed a different drummer ... The rest is music history.

John, Paul and George were already wanting Ringo on drums and George Martin told them, "For recordings we will use a studio drummer, live you can use Pete." But the other three wanted Ringo and a drummer who they could record with. And that was Ringo.
