McCartney II 2011 remaster
-
I own the version with the few extra tracks on (Check My Machine etc), but not the 2011 remaster with the extra disc (was there one with a DVD as well?),. For those fans of MII, is this something I should be rushing out to buy? I notice it has a longer version of Coming Up and a couple of other tracks, so it looks good on paper.

Yeah I think so. I couldn't afford the box set when it came out so I've yet to get it. But I have the double disc version wtih a second disc of outtakes and stuff. While "McCartney" may have lost a degree of intimacy with a cleaner sound + & -, I have nothing to fault on the "McCartney II" remaster. It's so good that it is preferable in every way to the 1993 CD reissue. I still love my original LP then, even if it is worn.

Yes, definitely. In terms of bonus tracks, it's probably the best of all the new remasters. Get the deluxe book, it's excellent.

Yes, highly recommended! The extended versions are fantastic, and often hilarious. So many funny vocal tracks, and some really funky drum and bass grooves. In my opinion, they cut out some of the best parts in the original release. This version is much more in the spirit of the whole project. It's loose, and crazy. Awesome, really. The sound is excellent. The DVD is not that interesting, but the book is fascinating, with lots of rare photos. It's a real treat, overall.

Highly recommended! If I'm not mistaken, my 2011 remaster came with my (now-defunct) Premium membership at the official web site a few years back. I still insist that -- if I didn't know better -- "Blue Sway" was a Sade record.

MII is finally getting its due. One of the major precursors to modern day techno music.
