a little confused about something

when Paul does 'paperback writer' at the shows he says "this is the guitar I used in the recording". interesting but it's a 6 string he's holding and not a bass. that track is most famous for it's AMAZING bass line. so did he play both bass and guitar on the recording? and why does he play a 6 string instead of a bass when he does the song live?

Paul played lead guitar on Taxman (with that Epiphone guitar) He also played bass. So he's just "showing off" a bit (his lead guitar skills)

Well, Paul played guitar and bass on "Paperback Writer". Moreover, Paul used his Rickenbacker bass on the recording. Paul has said in the past that the Rickenbacker is a fairly heavy bass, hence the reason why he doesn't use it in live performances anymore. But it would be cool for him to bring it out again!

When he performed Paperback Writer on the 1993 tour, he used the Hofner. It was fun to watch him play that bass line.
