USA Today Summer 2015 Festivals' Review
-
Paul got a nice review in today's USA Today (Monday 8/10/15). Article is "Grading summer festivals' biggest headliners" Macca got a B+ grade; only Florence + the Machine got a better grade (A) Shows that even at 73, our boy still has it. Maybe someone can post this article. Thanks

Considering the comments about his voice, surprised they gave him that high a grade. See below. "Veterans such as Billy Joel, AC/DC and Jack White rocked the festival circuit this summer, but none more than 73-year-old Paul McCartney, who earned mostly positive notices for his jam-packed, 32-song set at Firefly in Dover, Del., in June. Although he "started off sounding a bit hoarse," he loosened up as the show went on, Philly.com noted, tearing through Wings and Beatles hits including Live and Let Die and Back in the U.S.S.R., respectively. He also reached into the Fab Four catalog at Lollapalooza, reviving Helter Skelter and Get Back (with the help of another festival favorite, Alabama Shakes' Brittany Howard). Chicago Tribune lamented that his "voice showed signs of fraying" in the career-spanning performance, but he "still provided a lasting memory or two."

___________________________________________________________ Yes Yankeefan I agree. The comments didn't match the Grade. I personally saw a bunch of the videos from Lollapalooza and I thought they were great. Was Paul's vocals as good as 20/30 years ago? Of course they weren't but they were still good and his timing, phrasing, ad libs on his vocals were spot on. Like he often does, he sounded great live and the Band as usual was fantastic. I would have given him at least a B+. Now I didn't see a video of Maybe I'm Amazed. I might have changed my mind if I saw that one. But there was no doubt that the crowd (not anything close to a normal Macca crowd) from the videos that I did see absolutely loved the show. As a side note, your Yankees should discuss Utley with the Phillies. He could help them down the stretch and he loves hitting in your park. Remember the 2009 World Series.

BJ- The Yankees finally have some decent prospects for the future (Severino, Judge, Bird, Mateo, Sanchez etc). The last thing they need to do is mortgage the future for another older player with history of injury. If Utely was the same player as 2009 then it might be a good idea but he is not and Yanks should pass. Also, they got a kid in AAA (Rob Refsynder) who has showed good promise hitting at all minor league levels, they are just not sure of his defense yet.

Yankeefan, I hear what you are saying. That was the Phillies' mistake...holding on to older players way too long and not developing their minor league system.

Read on Pollstar the promoters of Lollapalooza will pay about $246,000 to repair the park grounds. Not to do with Paul directly, but he did play there!
