Hey Jude rehearsal video
-
The end bit is so funny! (John & Ringo's exchange)
-
There's a better quality vid of it here, slightly diff edit and it cuts the end off (as that was how this version was aired)
It's taken from (the cut version) and was filmed for a 1968 documentary simply titled "music", that showed music from all sorts of life. I only remember this so well as it was shown in the UK in about 1989/90 when we'd first got a video recorder so i taped the hey jude clip and played it over and over for years!! -
^ Thanks!

Poor George. Even George Martin is ignoring him in the studio. Martin was like "leave me alone kid. I'm trying to work on this masterpiece with Paul.."

(I don't think GM knew what the hell George was talking about!)

For me, the Anthology 3 version of Hey Jude is OK for release as a single at that time. Maybe it just needed a definitive vocal track. But we all know that they recorded a much better version that eventually became the single. That was the strenght of the Beatles. Had it not been for the master version, I would have believed now that the alternative recording would have been the best.

It wasn't clear what George (Harrison) was talking about...sounded a bit philosophical (?) and George Martin was there to make a record, not to listen to what Harrison was on about. Why was Harrison in the control both anyway? Because Paul didn't want him playing lead guitar the way he was doing it...echoing the "Hey Jude"? And who was that guy sitting next to Harrison...Emerick???

Nor do we.

Wait a minute! Is this video showing that George Martin and the Beatles were mere humans recording music?? Yeah, I bet George Harrison could be a bit annoying at times. Like Paul. And George Martin had to be a professional and get a song recorded. Anyone who has ever recorded knows this is how it works, even if you aren't a legend or world famous.

George was discussing music, but since we only heard a snippet of the entire conversation, who knows what it was all about? And it was not uncommon for one of the Beatles to be in the control room while one or more of the others played. I know Paul one time was in there encouraging John and making suggestions (I think it's on the Anthology) The guy could be Emerick. He sure looks young!

errr actually as my previous post says, they were there so that the film "music" could include them in the footage - this isn't just some old home movie footage of them doing hey jude, it was specially filmed for the film called "music", and seeing as George wasn't playing in these takes, having him talking with George Martin was to include them both in the footage.

Sorry. I didn't read everything before posing my question, so I missed what you had written. I just went straight to the video. The whole project you mentioned...the film "music"...is, I guess, news to me. Thanks for clarifying it. ops:

it's ok, no need for the embarrassed smiley! Like i said in my post i only remember the film so well as we'd just got a video recorder so taped it! I've tried googling "music" 1968 film and of course there's a billion results, none of which (well.. ok i gave up looknig after page 2..!) are about the film. But i kept the cutting from the tv guide at the time (though don't ask me where it is!) and had the whole thing on tape until about 5 years after airing when i dubbed the hey jude bit out onto another tape and went over it It was nothing special, except for hey jude of course

Its too bad you didnt tape John & Paul on the Tonight Show in 1968. It would have been very valuable!

As my first post says, i taped the 1968 film "music" when it was shown on channel 4 TV in 89/90 in the UK. Not pretending i had the worlds first video recorder in 1968 6 years before i was born..
