Tug of War 1982 remastered or not?
-
Can anyone clear up this issue: Has the TOW 1982 original mix been remastered or not? We have the 2015 remix, but it's not clear if the 1982 original mix has been remastered. The description on Amazon says "Includes the newly remixed album, plus the *original album as it was originally released* in 1982". That seems to indicate that it hasn't been remastered...

The back cover of the original LP says it was mixed digitally. It was probably one of the first. I can't see why they would need to remaster it if that's the case. It was a great production in the first place. (Although wikipedia does say there was a remastered version put on itunes in 2007) We're getting into that area where there will be little difference in the sound quality of the original 80s and 90s albums, and the reissues. Unless they do complete remixes. The main reasons for reissuing will be extra tracks and because they are all currently out of print. Except for the remaining four Wings albums. They will greatly benefit from being remastered.

However, a technical issue - a new remaster of a 1982 digital mix will be (should be) vastly improved in terms of sound, as the other reissues in this series have shown. And - as we know now from the message posted here earlier - the 1982 mix has indeed been remastered. My issue is now - why isn't it the "main" product here, and have the 2015 remix as an "extra"? I don't want a remix, I want a good remaster of the original, and not have to pay over the top for it, as we are being presented with in this case....

Having listened to the remixed album along with the original mix, I have to say that I prefer the new mix. It has been done very well, with Paul himself in attendance. There is more clarity with the new mix. It sounds amazing!

Paul's vocals seem more up front and prominent in the new mix.

I agree that the remix sounds fantastic, but I don't think it's better just different. It's like seeing an old familiar friend in slightly better clothing!
