Remembering John Lennon (09/10/1940 - 08/12/1980)
-
A thread to post memories of seeing John or listening to his music.
-
Missing John and I have always loved his song Beautiful Boy.

I can't believe how quick the years go by!!! 35 years has gone by!!! To me, it seems like it was just yesterday!!

How the World Reacted to John Lennon?s Death 35 Years Ago In the days after murderer's name edited shot John Lennon on Dec. 8, 1980, the area around the gates of the Dakota, Lennon?s apartment building in New York City, quickly turned into a makeshift memorial. Flowers and signs from fans quoting Beatles lyrics were displayed alongside the more official remembrances, as world leaders made their way to honor an artist whose life had been ended too early. The killing was shocking not only for its senselessness, but also because Lennon managed to escape many of other pitfalls of rock stardom. ?He beat the rock-?n?-roll life,? TIME?s remembrance quoted Steve Van Zandt saying the day after Lennon died. ?Beat the drugs, beat the fame, beat the damage. He was the only guy who beat it all.? Source: http://time.com/4131751/john-lennon-1980-anniversary/ Admin Edit In keeping with the wishes of those who are sensitive to seeing the name of John's murderer in print, as requested that name has been edited from the above article quote.

I think there's probably more than one thread on here about remembering John.

He deserves more than one. But I'll probably ignore this one. Seeing the name of his killer so prominently displayed is a major turn off.

(I guess the mods can merge the threads.) I love the song "Empty Garden "Hey, Hey, Johnny) by Elton John:
Here Today - Paul John Forever!️ *"Hold that line! Block that kick!"* -
I know this thread was started by a Scottish person (hence the dates written the way they were) What is weird is that he actually died on Dec. 9th in the U.K. And, yes, it is so hard to believe it's been 35 years. I was 25 then and remember it like yesterday. I was devastated and cried off & on for at least a week. It also for some reason really upset me that his killer was born one day exactly before me in the same year. I was born May 11, 1955. RIP John

Nancy that is sad to read but sweet to share. Hugs to you.️ I was born on December 01, 1968. A week after my 12th birthday I was traumatized, for the first time in my life to my knowledge, by John being murdered. My Dad and I loved The Beatles. My Dad turned me onto The Beatles. Then 3.5 months later my Dad died of a massive heart attack. Another trauma. Both seemed to forever relate to the other. My life was never the same. Fragmentation. Which is possibly why it is so hard for me to watch things about John's murder and I am so defensive of John. I read somewhere John was born at 6:30 pm on October 09, 1940 but some claim it was 7:30 pm. I wonder which time is correct? Peace and Love...️️

"Johnny, we hardly knew ye"--Except, in many ways, we did. Most of all through your music. Also because you talked so much, especially in your final interviews.

That's because he had a lot to say.

"This ism, That ism...ism...ism...ism...ism All We Are Saaaying!........." ~ //oo\\ Love You Brother Brotha' John

Such pleasing chord progressions in his songs.
-
and yes, can the mods remove the name of the jerk of all jerks...as Paul said.
-
As George wrote in the song "All Those Years Ago," "Now we're left cold and sad, by someone the devil's best friend, someone who offended all!!"

I am so sorry to hear that about your dad! He must have been fairly young! And John was born at 6:30 pm. according to Cynthia and a plaque at the hospital. Will post a pic if I can find it.

Found it easier than I thought

Every year I think of him, sometimes even a few days before the 8th. This year I have been thinking of John a lot-really miss him. Not only is his death so tragic, but happened at a time in his life where he was starting to feel excited to make music again, be creative and maybe even tour. He was in such a good place.
