Fantasy Paul Covers Album

toris, what exactly was the Tim/Jeff Buckley story other than Jeff was more famous?

HaileyMcComet:
Thanks for answering. I just developed more respect for Billy Joel.
Me too!

We're all familiar with the albums of McCartney covers that have come out in recent years. The other day I started mentally imagining what my fantasy Paul tribute album would be and -- perhaps due to the fact that I'm not exactly young and my main musical frame of reference is roughly 1965-1990 -- I realized that in several cases I wanted to hear Paul songs covered by singers who are no longer with us. So here is my fantasy Paul covers album that will never, ever be recorded: Only Mama Knows -- Bruce Springsteen You Tell Me -- Roy Orbison Put It There -- Pete Seeger That Day is Done -- Janis Joplin Mamunia -- Crosby, Stills and Nash Wanderlust -- k d lang Arrow Through Me -- Stevie Wonder The Pound Is Sinking -- Elvis Costello Junk -- Linda Ronstadt House of Wax -- Jim Morrison Eat at Home -- Buddy Holly One of These Days -- James Taylor Souvenir -- Aretha Franklin
You are going to laugh your head off but I actually would like to hear Meatloaf do "House Of Wax".
Whatever floats your boat. I'm not sure I'd willingly listen to Meatloaf doing anything. House of Wax actually isn't a big favorite of mine, but it just sounds like something Morrison could sing to me, in his "Riders on the Storm" mode. I bet the result would at least be interesting

Indeed. If he's lost interest in recording, he shouldn't do it, and he's right in thinking the results likely wouldn't be up to the standards he wants to maintain. There's no shame in knowing when to hang it up/

"There's no shame in knowing when to hang it up" Exactly, entertainers and athletes that know how to bow out gracefully is a good thing.

Isn't there a band called Ketchup? Have they ever done a duet with Meatloaf? I can picture them on stage doing the mashed potato, but that might not have ever really happened.

I hope those rumors about Nsync reuniting and doing a remake of the entire Band on the Run album are true.

The Art Of McCartney was the final nail in the coffin as far as tribute albums go. I just don't think one will ever be done with any justice. I'd go for a tribute concert, though.
I quite liked The Art Of McCartney - Some highlights for me are Bob Dylan's Things We Said Today is surprisingly good , BB King's On The Way (must be one his last recordings) Def Leppard's Helen Wheels really rocks and also Roberts Smith's CMoon. Sure there are a few clangers like Chrissie Hynde's Let It Be is absolutely dreadful and Barry Gibb's When I'm Sixty Four not much better.
I had always wanted to hear Billy Joel do some Paul covers...but it was sort of a let down (I realize he did a few Beatles covers years ago, including Back in the USSR and A Hard Day's Night, that weren't half bad....but MIA and LALD were not inspiring)
Billy did a great cover of I'll Cry Instead a while back. He's also done She Loves You, When I'm 64, With A Little Help, and Get Back. He really hit the nail on the head with Back in the USSR in my opinion. -Rubber Soul13

Wow, I'm even trying to think how Billy Joel could morph those songs together.... I love Billy Joel, at least I did when he was killing them in those tours of Oz all those years ago on the back of A Matter of Trust.... he did a great Back in the USSR on that tour, or close to it... then again Billy did the best McCartney tribute with Just the Way You Are.... and a few other choice songs. Will always respect Billy Joel. Great artist.
