A tribute band called the McCartney years is coming to Albuquerque. Anyone ever see this? Have an opinion?

Thanks for posting those! Looks fun. Unfortunately, I can't make it, as my duo is booked that evening at another local casino. But I will let my brother and others know. The guy said Denny Laine will join them in 2015. Wow. I suppose this is as close as Albuquerque will ever get to a McCartney concert.

Nope, and screw him, he's not playing left-handed! Go see Ardy Sarraf from The Fab Four do his McCartney show. He's the best! https://twitter.com/Fabard21 Video about the show on axs tv: http://www.axs.tv/originals/the-worlds-greatest-tribute-to-paul-mccartney-wings-tonight/

I say the more Wings tributes the better. Both are good bands.

Ardy is naturally right handed and learned to play the bass left handed (and also acoustic left handed for Yesterday)

Last night, I saw "The McCartney Years" Tribute Show near my home in Tarpon Springs Florida (near Tampa). When I saw the ad in the local paper last month, it was right down my alley as a big Macca fan. I have to say that I enjoyed the concert very much. Perhaps it was the intimate setting, but the band was very good. This is the show that features Yuri Pool as Paul McCartney. Besides having quite a good voice, Yuri had many of Paul's 70's mannerisms (especially Wings Over America period) down to a science. In fact, he took some of his stage banter almost verbatim from Rock Show which has coincidentally been on my TV Cable several times recently. One thing I never knew is that Denny Laine has appeared with Yuri and his Band at selected concerts. Obviously, I only wished I had been that lucky last night. Some of the songs that I liked best were: * Let Me Roll It To You - while I was growing tired of Paul doing this one, I really liked the simplicity of Yuri and his band doing it. The guitars sounded so good in such a intimate setting. *Live and Let Die - without all the special effects, "Die" sounded so good. The guitar work again was great. I could have done without the band members falling down at the end (like what Paul's current band does). The lady that played Linda introduced "Die" just like Linda did during Rockshow *Magneto and Titanium Man - liked this because I had never heard it live before. Not quite as good as the Rock Show version, it was still good. They even used the cartoon character banner that was used during Rock Show. *Listen to What the Man Said - liked this one because I had never heard it live before. Yuri and the Band did a good job *Band on the Run - done very well by Yuri and Band *Silly Love Songs - another one that I had never heard done live and Yuri's singing was very good. *I've Just Seen a Face - I never get tired of this one and it sounded just as good last night. Yuri used the same Rock Show stage banter ("toe tapper) to introduce the song *Here There and Everywhere - I'm not sure I had ever heard Paul do this one live and Yuri and Band did a good job *Blackbird - Yuri did this one alone (like Paul) and his guitar skills didn't disappoint * Yesterday - another classic that I have heard too many times but sounded real good in the intimate setting. Yuri voice was very good. *Maybe I'm Amazed - Yuri and Band did this one "note for note" like the Rock Show version. Yuri (as a fairly young guy) sings this classic much better than Paul can do now. *Seargant Pepper - again in the intimate setting, this one sounded real good. With the price tag of $30.00 I felt I got great value for a show this good. The audience consisted mainly of boomers (50's to early 70's) and they seemed to really like it. My only complaint has nothing to do with the energy and quality of Yuri and the overall band. As a big time Macca fan, I would have preferred a few more songs from Tug of War on. I do understand that Yuri and the producers have to do a show where 90% of the audience is quite familiar with almost all the songs. That is why they concentrate on Beatles and Paul 70's Solo/Wings hits. In fact, they didn't do any anything past Silly Love Songs. Personally I came into this concert (I didn't check their Website to know in advance) hoping to hear some Solo songs past 1980. I would have been thrilled to hear just one song each from Tug of War, Flowers in the dirt, Flaming Pie, Chaos and MAF. In retrospect I wasn't surprised that it didn't happen for the reasons I gave above. 90% of the audience come to a show like this to hear the big Beatle and Wings Hits and that is just what they heard. All in all, I would highly recommend "The McCartney Years" to anyone here on this Site. The professionalism of the Band and Yuri's voice alone makes it a great value for $25 or $30. Has anyone seen this show and what were your feelings after the concert.

Just to add to my review above... As a big McCartney fan, I would have liked it far better if they had done less Beatles and more Post Beatles Macca. The big draw back for me personally is that they copied Paul's current tour shows and his Wings Over America tour so closely. Because I have seen them several times, I knew the punchlines if you catch my drift and I have heard the same songs repeatedly. Basically, it featured (with a few exception that I mentioned above) the "hits" that everyone knows. I was hoping for more originality with their setlist. I would have liked them to include all the decades as the name "McCartney Years" implies. Even if they would have stuck to 70's Paul they could have done more songs that Paul has never or rarely done live on stage. Examples might be: *Getting Closer *The Mess *Give Ireland Back to the Irish *With a Little Luck *Spin It On There are so many other 70's songs I could name. But I understand the way it is. They have to make it pretty Beatles heavy to sell tickets and publicity for future shows. It's a shame because this Band did have the talent as they could really rock. The guy that played Jimmy McCulloch was quite good as well. This being said, the show definitely offers great value for any Beatles/Paul fan. For those people who like Paul and have never seen him live (or just once) it would be a great value for $30.

But he plays right-handed, no? That would be the only thing to "spoil" it for me.

____________________________________________________ Nancy, You're right but that didn't really bother me. Funny thing is that at certain angles he looked like Paul a little. I believe (and I could probably find out) his father played in one of the early Beatles' tribute bands and you guessed it...played Paul. Little surprise that his son got into doing it. I was more interested in their overall sound than how much they looked like Paul and Wings. I thought they were very good sound wise and the crowd really liked it too. You probably have been to more tribute shows like this than anyone here on this Site. Have you seen anyone who has a full band that will play mostly "Paul" Post Beatles. I'm thinking maybe at one of the Beatle festivals. The other thing I would love to see is just a singer/guitarist doing a lot of acoustic McCartney material. When you think of it, a person like this could have loads of Macca material especially if he did all the decades. He couild also include Beatle material not overplayed like I Will, Here There & Everywhere, For No One etc. etc. Then going into Solo stuff. Just about every album has acoustic material he could do. Now I would be in "7th Heaven" for a show like that and it would be pretty intimate. I would probable prefer a male singer since Paul is, but I wouldn't mind a female doing it as well. I remember seeing videos of Emmy Lou Harris doing some Paul songs and it was great. Now Only if I could sing and play a good guitar (and I was 25-30 years younger) ....what a great job that would be.

Now that guy really looks like Paul. I would be more interested if they do other Paul songs not so overplayed. You know...the deeper cuts you hardly ever hear but still very good songs. I've heard some of Laurence Juber stuff and I'm hoping to see Laurence at a weekend festival at the end of May. Nancy knows the name of this show in the Louisville KY area. I know that Laurnce does some great Beatles/Paul acoustical material.

Abbey Road On The River (AROTR) and they moved it across the Ohio River to Jeffersonville, IN starting this May 2017. I prefer Ardy Sarraf (who is also Paul in The Fab Four)

See above video of Ardy Sarraf and this one of him doing Maybe I'm Amazed. The guy playing bass is John in The Fab Four and the lead guitarist is Michael Amador, their former George - now is Gavin Pring (Ardy is their Paul)
