Some would say it started even before that.

"I want to hold your hand" hits #1 in the U.S. at the same time - music world never the same after that.
-
Kennedy assassinated just a few weeks prior. The Beatles "invasion" couldn't have happened at a better time for a country in mourning.

I love the quote in the documentary "The Compleat Beatles," it goes like this: "I Want To Hold Your Hand" became number 1 here in the US as a result of the popularity impact and noise that The Beatles were creating in Europe as well as British 45 RPM import records finding their way into the US. Before stepping foot on American soil, The Beatles were America's NUMBER ONE BAND!!

Great photos Nancy R!!!

Just 3 years later from that 1st appearance, they released the Strawberry Fields single and video. Its mind boggling to realize how quickly music changed back then.
-
I was watching Dyck Clark's American Bandstand the day they first played the Strawberry Fields Forever video. Some of the teenagers who were used to the moptop persona and image weren't prepared for the surrealism and deep philosophy.
