Paul and Ray Davies
-
Does anyone know if Paul and Ray Davies are mates :
-
Does Ray Davies have "mates"? No, I don`t think so. Davies said some pretty caustic things about the Beatles` arrogance, as he saw it. I am sure they repect each other, though.
-
ray made some comments about paul about 5 years ago, i shall try and dig them out, they were basically that he thought he was trying too hard and should accept what he was...that sort of thing, will try and find it, anyway, he didn't sound like much of a friend

here is the quote, from 2006. THE KINKS frontman RAY DAVIES is desperate to see SIR PAUL MCCARTNEY move away from middle-of-the-road music and produce something extreme. The WATERLOO SUNSET rocker is convinced the former BEATLE is hiding behind a smokescreen and should either strip down his sound, or take it to the other end of the spectrum and collaborate with SIR ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER. Davies says, "I'd like to hear him stripped down musically, then maybe more of him could come through. "I still think there's a camouflage there and I don't know whether that's intuitive or planned. I'd like to hear him sound like what he is, one of our great folk heroes. Let's try to restore that. "Or he should work with Andrew Lloyd Webber: I really think that is the marriage I am waiting for. Get more real or go that far."
-
I doubt they've ever spoken to each other and as much as I'd love them to work together, it's highly unlikely. Ray is in many ways, Paul's opposite. He's bipolar, goes around the streets largely unrecognized and I actually feel quite sorry for him. Interesting fact though, one of John's favourite songs at one point was Wonderboy, an obscure single by the Kinks, and he kept getting the DJ to play it in a club he was in in '69, I think it's a bit mad to be true myself.
-
Ray Davies slagged off Revolver a bit in NME or Melody Maker when it came out, said that George's Taxman was a bit like Batman, which to be fair it is. He wasn't bowled over by the album though you could say that since his quote, Macca has done Electric Arguments so had done what he suggested.

rediscovered this thread and remembered a picture I saw a couple of years ago: ray and paul standing next to each other at this occasion in 2014 http://www.billboard.com/files/media/prince-charles-paul-mccartney-lily-allen-prs-anniversary-2014-billboard-650.jpg

I don't recognize the blonde lady with bare midriff next to Andrew Lloyd Webber

Prince Charles and Camilla are in the picture.

Ray's hair looks as bad as Paul's But, other than the hair, Paul looks great!

I always thought Paul & Ray were joined at the hip, musically. Both highly melodic and had many styles. Both loved the vaudeville, old music hall, "story" songs, but still could rock. Ray took it much more to the extreme than Paul in his career, especially his 70s output.
