Paul's solo songs: Your favourite cover versions.

What is your favourite cover version of a song Paul has written and recorded since 1970? My favourite song by Paul is Waterfalls and I particularly like this cover by Laura Groves.

.Thanks for sharing that, Kestrel; hadn't heard it before. I like how it's otherworldly eeriness.

Love Billy Paul's version of Let Em In. Took a Macca throwaway & turned it into a meaningful song about racial harmony. Very relevant today.

While Paul has never officially released it, I love the song "On the Wings of a Nightingale" covered by the Everly Brothers. Very frustrating that Paul has never done the song live. Paul's demo is on U-Tube and I like it even better than the Everly's version. There are also some very good covers by other artists (far more unknown than the Everly's) on U-Tube. Maybe someone could put it on this thread for those unaware of the song. It' s a beauty.

Amen BJ !! This is a great song and wish he would have done a version of it and put it on "Pure McCartney". Even better, play it live on his acoustic part of the show. BTW - The Spongetones do a real good cover of this song also. Click link below.

__________________________________________________________ Thanks Yankeefan. That's a good version. There is another version by a male/female duo called Arctic Monkees (I think that is there name) that is really good too. You have to wonder what goes on in McCartney's head. When he did Unplugged in 1992 (I think that was the year), you wonder why he didn't do it then. It would have been a perfect acoustic song in that set. You would think he would want to showcase a rare but very good song he wrote for the Everly Brothers 10 years earlier. The MTV unplugged series at the time was getting a lot of buzz and Paul's show got a huge audience. Plus there was a follow-up album! While he did a few Beatle and Solo songs in this concert, he also did quite a few "cover" rockabilly songs. Paul easily could have included a few more solo songs that he wrote. It is obvious that none of his kids are the kind of fans that we are. I know that you and I (and others from this board) would have pushed him to do a couple of unheralded gems from his Solo career that at that time he had yet to do live. Besides "Nightingale", how about I'm Carrying? O'h if we only had that influence with Mr. McCartney. My only theory is that Paul has written so many songs that they all just kind of run together in his mind. Fast forward to 2016 and it seems that Paul only focuses on Beatle songs for the most part. You would think his kids would be more into his Solo songs but that doesn't seem to be the case either. "Nightingale" is just another song to them (and Paul) but in this case it really has a great background story to it. As the story goes, Don and Phil had contacted Paul since the brothers were about to do a "reunion" tour. It was a big deal at the time since they hadn't toured in a long time. Like the Beatles, they had a bad break up but in this case they were getting back together. Their record company insisted that they needed a new song to promote the tour and coincidently they were starting their tour in England. Paul just kind of wrote it on the spot after getting their request. Wouldn't be great to have that kind of talent!!

I have wondered about what is in his head for years, his selection of songs for "singles", set list and finally the songs he selected for "Pure McCartney" just make you shake your head. He says in recent interview that he did not put on any songs from FITD for "Pure McCartney" because FITD is the next re-issue - OMG. "Really, one song from FITD would have ruined the re-issue of FITD - lol. "On The Wings OF A Nightengale" is an almost perfect pop song and if he wrote it during his Beatle days he and others would have considered it a classic. "I'm Carrying is just a beautiful song and will never be acknowledged which is a shame. I also thought that his children may be more into his solo work because their mother was also involved in that music but maybe we are wrong.

Corinne Bailey Rae's Bluebird. I also thought Smile Away suited Alice Cooper's voice very well. -Rubber Soul13

Heard a version of 'Every Night' on the radio the other although i cant remember the name of the female singer.
-
Eddie Vedder, Blackbird
-
Take your pick "Jet" by Cheap Trick or "Listen To What The Man Said" by Owl City.

No probs. I couldn't think of any other female singer who had covered that song although there probably have been a few over the years.
