"If you tried to give rock and roll another name, you might call it 'Chuck Berry'." - John Lennon. He also called Berry rock's first and best poet. Rock and Roll Music Roll Over Beethoven Sweet Little Sixteen Maybelline Memphis, Tennessee Back in the U.S.A. Just a few of his rock'n'roll classics that will live on. RIP Chuck Berry

Circa 1981, when I was a wee lad recently out of college, I waited tables for a year or so at the Jolly Roger restaurant on Sunset Blvd. in the heart of Hollywood, near a lot of entertainment industry offices. Chuck Berry was a regular, and I waited on him several times. He was very quiet -- so soft-spoken I often had to ask him to repeat his order so I could be sure I heard it. He always came in by himself and sat at the counter -- no entourage, and the farthest thing in the world from someone acting the part of a "star." If anything, he seemed kind of lonely. We were all very respectful and never bugged him for autographs, etc., but I do remember thinking at times, "My god, I am pouring coffee for a god."

The final album he recorded last year and finished this year will be released June 16th. Called "Chuck", guests include guitarists Tom Morello and Gary Clark Jr.

It was actually recorded over many years and finished last year. You can listen to a track from it here. If you like your Chuck Berry straight up, this is it:

I have his wonderful autobiography--he wrote it himself and his mother an English teacher proofread it. I hadn't known Chuck wrote "Brown Eyed Handsome Man." What a beauty. Cheeky and witty of him to have written "No Particular Place to Go" in the Big House during one of his two prison terms. He said he wanted to write and sing slow ballads, but thought he could never equal or come near to Nat King Cole's and Frank Sinatra's, said he wasn't really able to write, play and sing anything but fast upbeat perky jaunty feel good fare. That's what made it rock, after all. He named his song "Maybelline" after his classes in beauty school, cosmetology, maybe that was during a jail stint too.

Chuck Berry's new album will be released this month, I'll find out and post it here on this thread. HAIL HAIL ROCK N' ROLL! EDIT - Chuck Berry's new album "CHUCK" will be released on 9 June 2017. "CHUCK" will be Chuck Berry's first album in 38 years!

Hi fellow Beatles fanatics! I hope all is well with all of you! Has anyone heard Chuck Berry's new album entitled "CHUCK?" In my opinion, Chuck Berry's new album "CHUCK" would become what it was destined to become, Chuck's farewell! To be honest with you, "CHUCK" actually sounded better than I thought it would! What really surprised me is that Chuck Berry never lost his touch when it came to playing his guitar! Chuck also wrote all of the songs for his new album except one. Listening to "CHUCK," you would never believe that a 90 year old man was singing or playing guitar on the album! The songs "Wonderful Woman," "You Go To My Head," "Darlin'," "Lady B. Goode," "Jamaica Moon" and "Eyes Of Man" really brings out the emotions and feelings from Chuck Berry and will end up flowing through his guitar! When I listen to the song "Darlin'," I really get teary eyed! Chuck wrote this personal song to his daughter Ingrid Berry who also sings vocals and plays harmonica throughout the album. I guess it is safe to say that Chuck Berry REALLY bared his soul on this song! Chuck Berry would dedicate his new album "CHUCK" to his wife of 68 years, Toddy. He is quoted as saying: My darlin', I'm growing old! I've worked on this record for a long time. NOW, I can hang up my shoes.

This album really surprised me, I really didn't think or believe that Chuck Berry had it in him anymore to perform or record an album especially at the age of 90! Chuck Berry was really a hard core die hard Rocker at heart!

There was one great song I left out of my list of songs I talked about in another previous post here on this thread. The name of the song is "Big Boys!" Chuck Berry must have found the "Fountain of Youth" when he recorded this song! This is the Chuck Berry of old, this song brings out the youth in Chuck Berry!
