Mysterious 'Death' Mask
-
Hi, Paul & Team, Thanks for the opportunity. A few years ago, I stopped by at a small music store, then managed by a friend of mine, next to the Chelsea Hotel, on 23rd Street, here in New York City, and they had this mask hung on the wall that really struck me. As that Yellow Submarine line goes, 'the resemblance is striking.' It's hard to imagine that Paul would have this done and kept it under wraps. They had no idea where it had come from, but it's sure impressive. Can anyone tell me whether they've seen this before? I'm also highly interested about Paul's opinion about it. Thanks and Best Regards, Wesley Coll https://imgur.com/Ii6X82Q https://imgur.com/2IxZW5H

"Kept under wraps"? He doesn't report all the projects he's working on. He has probably sat numerous times for paintings, statues, carvings, wax statues, etc. This may have been for the 3D statue. I vaguely remember something about a bust of him too but didn't find any info on it. https://3dprint.com/71630/3d-print-paul-mccartney/ https://3dprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/mccartney.png

Thanks for your reply but if you'd have checked the pics I've included, you would've realized that none of them look like an art statue, or at least a depiction done to pay homage to him. The work is clearly done on the style of classical death masks. I didn't mean to say that Paul hid anything, just that he may not be aware of them. I'd rather have him tell us how does he like them and whether he knew about them. Please pass them along so he may express his own thoughts. Thanks Wesley Coll

I did look at your pics. You are right that they are not statues. It is like a reverse rubber resist. I'm not sure of all of the technical terms but they do they in order to make a statue or a bust. Paul never posts here.

I appreciate it. Wesley

Check out some youtube videos on face casts. These are more of a solid finished product but I assume basically the same idea.

That's definitely the technique employed. But since it requires the person to pose as model, it'd be interested to know how Paul's were done. Thanks Wesley
