"beatle-esque" songs by different bands
-
hey all.... what are some songs and artists that in your opinion(s), have some very "beatle-esque" sounds to them??? i figure a lot of you might say many of the oasis tracks. but i'll point more to songs like "that thing you do!" - just love that! and the very first time i heard keane's "somewhere only we know" - i would have swore that paul wrote that and let them record it... ESPECIALLY when you listen to their other songs... and would any of you put julian's "valotte" on a list like this?? your thoughts?

Look What You've Done by Jet is very Beatle-souding. When I first heard it on the radio I thought it was some Beatles song I'd never heard before.
-
Oasis songs are very Beatle like . Liam Gallagher sounds a lot like John Lennon a lot of the time.
-
ELO, Supertramp, XTC, Queen, Oasis, Crowded House, Blur Of course, there are much more.
-
hey jackie great choice! i forgot about that jet song, but you're so right. "look what you've done".... i think that the beatles would have made this song better, because just in my opinion (so NO beating me up, jet fans).... the song for THEM (the band jet) is a departure from the loud, jangly stuff, so it doesn't have to sit on its own merit. or maybe it just needed george martin to give it some kind of orchestral swell or crescendo.... OH, and i cannot believe i forgot to mention the song that made me even THINK of this post, but how about....: sowing the seeds of love - tears for fears ? i got to see them do this live.... just awesome....

Belle and Sebastian I think sounds kind of Beatles like and if not McCartney like definately
-
Here are a few that are Beatlesque or McCartneyesque XTC has done so many but I'd Like That is so very much like Paul. Go All The Way by The Raspberrys could easily have been a Wings Song. Cruel To Be Kind Nick Lowe I Saw The Light. Todd Rundgren

agreed... and I also agree with the one who mentioned "Seeds Of Love" by TFF!
-
Basically anything by ELO. I've heard it said Telephone Line is the best Lennon-McCartney collaboration that never was, and I can't argue - though the award could just as easily go to The Diary of Horace Wimp, or Big Wheels, or Sweet Talkin' Woman, or Shangri-La, or Steppin' Out, or Can't Get It Out of My Head...

i adore checking your songs you mention, people... [ this is fun! (clarinet solo...] but some of ya left out the song titles, which was funny for me trying to bring my mind thru the recognizable catalogue of some of the bands mentioned.... very interesting. i never really thought of queen, blur, OR crowded house as beatle-esque 'letmein'...., but i'll revisit and especially listen to see... i LOVE that crowded house song called 'into temptation'... but i don't hear and beatles influence in it... and yeah, 'silver moondog'... i LUUUVVVVV 'sowing the seeds of love' and always have.... but it came on a radio station the other day.... and it's just SOOO 'beatles-luscious' that i just sat in my car listening until it was over.... (and it's a long one...) - which got me lots of looks because it was like 94 degrees at the time... rock on everybody!

I think Crowded House and XTC are especially McCartney-esque, and Andy Partridge's voice reminds me a lot of Macca.

Here's two: "No Matter What" - Badfinger and "That Thing You Do" - The Wonders. The ending to the song "That Thing You Do" sounds exactly like the ending of "I Saw Her Standing There" it isn't even funny!
-
Dave Clark Five's song "Any Way You Want It" has a pattern similar to "Please Please Me" by the "Fabtastic Four"-Peter &Gordon "World Without Love" written by Macca. Chad & Jeremy-"Weeping Willow- to name some more.
-
Tears for Fears Sowing the Seeds Of Love was very Beatles sounding. Also there was a New Kids On The Block song from 1990 that thankfully has left my mind hopefully never to return.
-
i know this may get laughed at but i think hanson songs have some similarities to the beatles. songs like "penny and me", "underneath" or "let you go" have beatlely harmonies and sounds

Check out this webcast: http://www.ripthemusic.com/beatlesque.htm . It's a radio show that is nothing but Beatlesque music. There are some real gems in there. I really think you'd be into it.

Me either. To me, Blur sound a lot like The Kinks.

awesome link lyle!! what's funny, is to see some songs from this thread already in there... altho, i don't know about "ringo" being beatles-ESQUE..... lol - i think i would consider ringo a beatle.... lol what also was cool - was that for some of those songs, i was like .... "no way"..... yet, i bet someone else would hear it totally..... that, is among the cool things about sharing these song titles, and enjoying the diversity... p.s. have any of you 'across the ponders' [i use that lovingly] ever seen, heard, or read any connection between paul and keane's "somewhere only we know?" i'm just curious if that is just 'me'.....

Yeah, that part in the chorus between his singing, sounds like it could be a Beatles outtake.

A ton of Crowded House songs. Pineapple Head Four Seasons In One Day - one of the greatest songs ever written Distant Sun Don' Dream It's Over just to name a few Elvis Costello is clearly very Beatle influenced. The Attractions' bass player could pass as Paul.
