"beatle-esque" songs by different bands
-
I actually think Jet sounds a lot like the Beatles. Can't really place a finger on any one song, though. Whenever I hear "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" I just can't help but follow it up with "I Wanna Be Your Man". Maybe I'm just weird, though...

Billy Joels' album Nylon Curtain sounds like a lost Beatles album, an homage to them. I always thought My Life sounded like a McCartney song.

Thanks for mentioning Billy Joel. A song that he did on his 1980 "Glass Houses" album, as a matter of fact, the last song entitled "Through The Long Night" sounds like it could have been a Lennon/McCartney song, particularly the Paul part of the equation. I could easily imagine Paul singing this song.

Torn between the two- THE MOONS is very Beatly IMO
Bit of doors in there too .....but better I really like what ive heard of this band. Paul Weller played a concert celebrating the 50th annerversary of Island records ( i didnt go) and i heard a excellent version of Andy Crofts ( wellers keyboard player) covering Maccas 'every night' . When i looked into Andy i found he had been in a band called the on-offs who i saw twice and were excellent, and was now in the moons. He clearly is a Macca / beatles fan. Singing mean mr mustard in the bath ENGLISH SUMMER def a beatles / 60s vibe with them Flowers in the window- TRAVIS I once read that macca actually whistled the chorus to Fran.....dont know if this is true. If he gets involved with 'new ' groups they are normally also ran flash in the pans. -
My favorite was the rendition of Hava Nagila by the Mop Tops who did that song in Hard Days NIght fashion. Whole diffferent way of looking at a tradtional folk song. love doris.

AHAHAHA very Beatles! -
Check out Clifford T Ward - a VERY Paul McCartney type singer, now, sadly passed away.
Also, Chris De Burgh has done some very Beatles type material. here is him singing Yesterday... Also, Jeff Lynne and ELO just get MORE Beatlesque - check out THESE from his ZOOM album... And THIS is THE most Beatles type track I have ever heard.... -
I am playing this lp....and this is a little mccartneyish Who brings joy - PAUL WELLER
-
How about Emitt Rhodes? He is very McCartney-esque I reckon. Also, The Beach Boys song "Girl Don't Tell Me" has a strong Beatles influence.
-
I havnt heard this for ages Feel the benefit- 10CC
It as a Beatle feeling to it, plus it seems to be a few bits of songs thrown together which the beatles did sometimes . ....Eric later played with Paul of course( not as good as this though) -

Check out this webcast: http://www.ripthemusic.com/beatlesque.htm . It's a radio show that is nothing but Beatlesque music. There are some real gems in there. I really think you'd be into it.
Started listening to webcast #1 because of the song: Lies by the Knickerbockers. That song was much better than I remembered. Yes, the lead vocalist does sound a bit like John Lennon. The first time I heard the song I thought it was the Beatles. Except when someone says, "Yeah baby!" which is a dead give away it was not the Beatles. http://www.myspace.com/theknickerbockers

Gilbert O'Sullivan sounds a lot like Paul McCartney, his voice: Alone Again
Get Down Claire Also I don't like this song very much, I think that Kaiser Chiefs "Ruby" sounds a bit like Beatles: -
don't know if it's been mentioned already but the song The Way by Fastball always sounded a little Beatley to me.
And About A Girl By Nirvana for sure. Kurt admitted to trying to write a Beatles song with that one. He did a great job -

Thanks for posting this - I'm stuck on the song Claire, haven't heard it for years and never remembered it as being so good musically As a musician, I'm really impressed I think I'm listening to it for the third time in a row

A few more: Panic at the Disco's last album Pretty!Odd! is heavily inspired by Beatlepsychedlica. When the Day turns to Night
Northern Downpour (gorgeous harmonies at the end) The La's - There she goes Sloan - C'mon C'mon Teenage Fanclub - Sparky's Dream (maybe closer to The Byrds) Cotton Mather (mentioned before I think) - My Before and After Cotton Mather - She's only Cool The Feeling - Never be Lonely The Merrymakers - April's Fool (don't be fooled by the intro The Orchard Highway - Next World The High Dials - Fields in Glass The Quarter - She revolves Jellyfish - That is why and finally one of my favorite bands ever: Fountains of Wayne - Revolving Dora (guitar solo anyone? edit: I forgot to mention Tears for Fears' very last album (the one after Sowing the Seeds) called "Everybody loves a Happy Ending", where they go all out in their admiration for the Beatles: Tears for Fears - Call me mellow Tears for Fears - Secret World (halfway there's a Paul M. tribute Unfortunately the live versions are all I could find on YouTube, but I'd recommend to give the album a listen, because production wise it pretty much emulates a lot of Beatles stuff. -

And About A Girl By Nirvana for sure. Kurt admitted to trying to write a Beatles song with that one. He did a great jobI really don't agree with either of those songs being "Beatley". I remember liking Fastball's "The Way" when it was released... until I realised that it was a complete rip-off of Tom Jones' "Delilah"! As for "About A Girl", Kurt may have been a big Beatles fan, but his style and usage of chords on that song were not, in any way, reminiscent of The Beatles. It's a fantastic track, though, one of my favourites.
