Paul Still Sounds F------g Good
-
Paul stills sounds damn good ! Perhaps I'll be allowed to take up for him here, on his official site? Every now and then he might sound too tired and wavering, but certainly not on all, or most. I noticed his "Blackbird" was kind of weak at his Grand Central Station mini concert showcase. He'd been overdoing it while not resting his voice adequately before that pop up surprise show. This is still Paul freaking McCartney, a former BEATLE ! and his solo stuff is also fantastic. I got pissed at Entertainment Weekly for giving Egypt Station only a B plus...they'd raved about ES on that review before suddenly stating they don't know if any ES songs will enter the pantheon of his Beatles classics. And they gave Roger More or whatever his name is, Roger Miller of "Dang Me" and "Ahab the A Rab" and "King of the Road" hick novelty tunes fame an A minus, on the same page ! (Sullen, resentful pout) In his "early days" or earlier days, McCartney boasted one of the top five or so male songbird voices in popular music. Or top three ! For many years. And he still sounds good enough to record and go out on his massive tours, or he wouldn't do it. I noticed those songs I heard even on videos at his recent Montreal massive gig, were all a right treat. Ear candy. And the gigantic ginourmous crowd went wild ! This is a fervent plea for the Mackster to issue a new album soon, another one, of his "left over" Egypt Station session songs...to strike while the iron is hot (cliche, sorry), as so many are dying to hear still more from those fantastic ES sessions~an embarrassment of riches. To capitalize on the ES album's fantastic number one success. Several "new young" fans at the Take It Away facebook page were just now raving over Macca, and two of them stated his "Coming Home" song from the Robert de Niro movie soundtrack were what got them in to Macca music. That's great. He seems to especially prize his very youngest fans. And I must say, this site, Paul's very own personal place on the Web can use more of that feel good appreciative fan spirit that's exhibited at Rob and Chris's Net "room."

Love this post and thread Suzy !
Great to talk up his current powers instead of yearning for yesterday
At 76 , he may not be flawless , but he is still great . I really love to hear him now , just as much as any other time in his career.
I'm a music tutor - I teach drum kit and guitar. I just had a 15 year old student for her drum kit lesson. I let her hear a bit of the Central Station gig. She thought he was great . When I then told her how old Paul was - she was genuinley stunned !:)
More power to you Suzy

I say ! oooooh am well chuffed, didn't quite know how this post would go over, since I called some fans here "Debbie Downers" last night, didn't know if I dared exhibit my visage so to speak, here again ! And that's super, you're a music teacher and musican and especially know what you're on about ! You know what's good. And with a nic or name like "Stuartshire" doubtless you hail from the U.K. (?) All the better. That's fab. I need to get built up physically and mentally before finally seeing the magic macca music man again next May in Raleigh...just endured the second "really big storm" hurricane Florence just two years after the devastating Hurricane Matthew in Dixieland U.S.A., and it's rather a trauma drama going through that, son. Yeah I know I like to "read like" I come from the blessed island England and thereabouts, but I'm a bloody fake, LOL. I've been barging into U.K. chat rooms online for so many years now (and getting cussed out, LOL, they've really got a mouth on them!) that I've picked up some lingo...also from watching "EastEnders" (laughs), and from being an English Literature major at Uni. Ironically, my real surname is Italian (I don't like to give out my real one online!) and my Christian name is Sherry; but the other part of the fam originally hails from the U.K. My married name was something other. "Britt" like a real Brit !
Do you write songs? Is that your kid in your Avatar? He's a cutie pie. Um...I really needed a bit of praise just now, and am ever so grateful. And Macca needs still more praise. It probably isn't easy to grow old (not that he is, really) in this glorified profession of Rock Star (as Stevie Nicks said) and know some peeps are talking trash about ya. As if maturing isn't part of the shared human condition ! Yeppers, he's a "real, grown man" now albeit something of a Peter Pan and "eternal teenager" as one of my sisters calls him. She also calls him "a Preppy Pretty Boy" LOL. I don't think he'd fancy that ! He's Northern England, as Linda McCartney used to like to point out. Not a "toff." (?) I'd adore to visit Liddypool, and see and hear down to earth salt of the earth Brits like them. (Is f------k their fave word? Laughs) What part of the U.K. are you from? If you don't mind telling.

Hi Sherry ! i'm from Falkirk which is in central Scotland , right in the middle between Edinburgh and Glasgow. Thats my boy Joel . He's 10 , he loves the Beatles and Paul in particular , and we are going to see him in Glasgow in December
Liverpool is about 250 miles away , and one of my favourite places in the world ! - i hope you manage to get there sometime
I do indeed write songs , but much of the time I have to play cover stuff to pay the bills !
I'm sorry you had to endure Florence - my friend lives in Cary North Carolina , and she kept me informed about it - utterly horrendous
Your post is one of the most uplifting I've read on here. I totally agree - thanks for responding to me

Great post, Susy! Agree with you and stuartshire 100%. He still sounds wonderful and I'm so glad he's still going strong and giving us new music to enjoy. I feel it's important to give him lots of encouragement and support. Thanks for posting!

I totally agree! Im listening to Paul now and he sounds wonderful! I love the sound of his voice. Some people say his voice has gone downhill but in my opinion it has not! I can't wait till Paul adds L A to the tour so I can hear his beautiful voice. I feel inner peace in myself when I hear Paul sing. I just ignore the negative comments about his and I put on Paul's song Who Cares. I just LOVE that song. And I love Come On To Me and Fuh You. Great songs. Paul is a legend in music! I will always hold great respect for Paul!

I just had to comment on this thread! Come on, Paul is 76 years old, of course he is not going to sound like the Paul in his 30's or 40's! However, for being 76 years old, he still sounds great! THE MAN CAN STILL SING! To add even more, Paul even sounds better than many singers in their 20's and 30's today!

This is a deeply delusional thread.

He sounded good in Tokyo last year. He's no Tony Bennet, but who is?

Is that the first time you saw him perform in person, Hailey?

Paul's voice has a nice, warm, comforting sound, I think, on "Confidante" that reminds me of "Early Days," except the latter's vocal sounds a bit more lively as the tempo's somewhat faster. Sometimes I wish he had an album out of all acoustic fare, a folk song or folk rock song compilation showcasing his outstanding melodic gift and guitar playing. There's something quite special about that particular style of his. Intimate and soothing. I certainly love his rockers too, his piano ballads, all his styles. By the way, his singing sounds better than Tony Bennett's, to me.

On his Faceboo k page some people said really mean things about Paul's voice and his song Fuh You. I was both angry and heartbroken to read those nasty comments.I know Paul does not need our defense but I felt I had to defend Paul anyway from those mean comments. I remember in a video that Paul says he appreciates it when his fans listen to his music and say "Oh yeah I love this song". It makes him feel loved and appreciated. Those people on Facebook could have been a little nicer if they didn't like it or said it in a more polite way. After all Paul is greatly respected in the music industr y! Im very proud to be one of Paul's fans! Im just very proud of him and what he has accomplished over the years. I will always listen to his music amd I will ALWAYS love the sound of his voice because he makes me happy!

I glanced at his face book page...holey moley ! Going on 7 million members there ! Maybe more and more of them will buy Egypt Station. The big majority of them greatly appreciate Paul's offerings now, it appears (smiley face) ! More of them should join here. This place on the Net is special.
