I Want You To Fly
-
I Want You To Fly is one of my most favourite Macca tracks of the last 20 years. Sadly it got some what overlooked as a b-side ( for Jenny Wren I believe) which is a great shame. I love both the songs that have been linked here and the segue from one song to the other (at 2:43) was wonderfully executed. Anyway, I think the song deserves a thread of its own.

Great song. I've always liked this one.
haha...just thinking of the setlist thread. None of the 1st timers everyone is always talking about will ever get a chance to hear this live much less even know that it is on a cd. They haven't a clue.

It would be a great song to do live but I half suspect that even Paul has forgotten about it.
-
I wonder what it would sound like in his current voice.

The first half of the song might be tricky to pull off !!

Beautiful song
One that most would only hear if they found it and played it themselves. You don't usually hear this one even on a Paul McCartney special / interview / radio / type of show that says they are playing everything.
It is amazing to think of the Great songs that Paul himself didn't do, doesn't do, didn't chose to do beyond a recording...
Thanks for link ... i have not heard this in a long time and was reminded of it again ...
You know i am going to play it again soon

It’s not on Chaos & Creation, though, right? Only as a CD single with Jenny Wren?

It's on a few bootlegs. Along with another great song...Summer of 59

Love the words to this song! They're very encouraging and uplifting. I really needed to hear this song today! lol Thanks so much for sharing this link, Kestrel!
When he sings (toward the middle of the song) "I wanna be you" I think he was meaning "I envy you for the wonderful experiences you'll be having in your journey, and wish I could experience them with you."
Not sure why this wasn't put in a more prominent place on an album, instead of a single release, it's a beautiful song!
I don't think it's in a key that Paul would be comfortable singing now, but he could always try and see how it sounds of course

I don't think first timers for the most part care about anything he has done after 1980 - lol

I really like this song "I Want You To Fly," and the video that goes with it Maybe it's for one (or all) of his grandchildren. The video features incredible nature scenes

Oh, I love that song. I could not believe.....when I first heard it.....that he had left it off "Chaos......" (He left off a nice rocker too....the name of which eludes me at the moment, but one that would have given the album more heft and energy, which it needed.) I inserted "I Want You To fly" and the other one in my version of the album. Both of these songs are just more examples of Paul leaving off albums songs that fit better than some he includes. It's been frustrating over the years. I love the soaring sound of "I Want You To Fly." Paul was still in great voice on that album...perhaps the final one like that before the voice started to noticeably decline.

If a song has a key that's too high for Paul to sing now, wonder why he just doesn't transpose it down into a lower key that's more comfortable for him. Ringo does that when he performs songs like "It Don't Come Easy". And most of the sheet music that's out has different keys singers can choose to purchase, that's best for their particular voice. Maybe it just means alot to him to be able to sing songs as he originally wrote them.
As someone who's taken voice lessons, my voice isn't the same as it was when I was in my 20s, and I can't hit the high notes as well as I once did, so just decided to sing songs that are in a more comfortable voice range for me, or are in a slightly lower key.
