Don't agree with this quote by Paul

I don't agree with this quote by Paul. Why? I was bullied throughout school by the rich girls. it didn't end at High School. 6 years afterwards, whenever they'd see me working jobs, clerks in store, temp secretary in an office, they'd do crap just to get me fired because such sadistic things gave them pleasure.
I remember the worst was working in a mail room at a bank and one High School brat, 6 years since High School had graduated, pulled her same crank calling antics to my work station. calling over 200 times saying mean things. she got fired for it but they didn't want to keep me around either. so, Paul, bullying can't always be laughed off. It can cost someone a life and a job. It only gets worse when adults do it
Here's Paul's quote:
My hope is that if there are kids being bullied — and there are… Maybe by listening to this song and watching this video, they might just think it’s not as bad… that it’s the kind of thing you can just stand up to and laugh off and get through.” - Paul

Wow! Kathryn, that is awful! I can see why you don’t agree with Paul. I think those of us who have never been bullied, like myself and Paul, don’t always realize how truly terrible it can be and that you can’t always just “get over it.”

So sorry you had to go through that, Kathryn! I used to be bullied in school, too, and memories of it can cause pain for years afterward.
I remember reading somewhere, perhaps in an interview, that Paul said he was bullied by toughs in Liverpool quite regularly when he was a teenager and young adult, before he became famous. He would try to use a sense of humor to get out of it, but it didn't always work. I think he does understand from his own experiences what bullying is. Stella has said too that she was a victim of bullying at school, and as a result became a bully herself for a short time. It's possible some of Paul's other children have been victims of that as well.
Regarding Paul's quote: "My hope is that if there are kids being bullied — and there are… Maybe by listening to this song and watching this video, they might just think it’s not as bad… that it’s the kind of thing you can just stand up to and laugh off and get through.” - Paul I understood it to mean that he wants to give strength and support to victims of bullying, and to not give the bullies any more power than they deserve to have. Bullies pick on people they know will be hurt by what they say and do. If a person acts like what the bully says has no effect, and is no big deal, and the victim doesn't act like it hurts them, the bully will stop. I think that's what Paul was trying to say.... he meant it as trying to prevent bullying, or not giving the bully any power... in my opinion he didn't mean that as a lack of compassion for people that have already been victims. To say "Laugh it off and get through" I take that to mean, don't allow the bully to make you a victim and traumatize you, just try to get through it, and get on with your life, and learn to be happy in spite of the bad experience.
Thanks again for sharing your story, Kathryn. Those that hurt you have brought a lot of bad karma on themselves, so I believe what goes around comes around!

I had never heard Paul say he was bullied. I suppose during his chubby period as a 13/14 year old was when that could have happened. After that though, perhaps he got teased for being so “pretty” with his long eyelashes and all. The other boys were just jealous! Paul had no lack of female company even in the early days (1957-1962) before they gained fame in Liverpool and other areas of the U.K.

One of the issues with bullying that doesn't get addressed is when it's done by one adult to another. it is only talked about as a kid thing and when those bullies grow up and still bully, the consequences are worse. jobs and livelihoods can be lost.
Stella having been a bully is why I just can't like her. She's the type that bullied me when I was younger. I grew up among those girls. Now? It's rich and poor alike who get their jollies attempting to push their power on me. (Going through a situation with a workplace bully. haven't dealt with this in a very long time. Customers even sent me flowers to support me through this difficult time)

Stella said in an interview (will have to find it) that she regrets being a bully for a short time, when she was a teenager. It happened because she was hurt at being bullied in the first place. But it taught her a good lesson, she didn't like how it made her feel and knew it wasn't right and then stopped, and now works for anti-bullying causes. Linda said once that she and Paul wanted to teach their children to have good hearts, and to be kind, so I'm sure they wouldn't have liked seeing any kind of bullying behavior.
Will be remembering you and sending positive thoughts that you can find the strength to get through dealing with the bully that is in your space now! That's really nice of your customers to send you flowers and be supportive, that counts for alot! Hope you'll have a good day today. Anytime someone says something unkind, just remember this quote by Judge Judy: "I'm rubber, you're glue, whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you."

That was from Judge Judy? God, I love that woman. she don't deal with te BS. (though I try that and customers get mad. "are you on medication? YOu can't take this if you are" "Well, just a tiny bit..." "That's a yes. this isn't for you." "It's a tiny bit." "that's a yes"
