When John and Paul McCartney met for the first time

Hi NancyR, don't worry, I took the money comment lightly, I don't think any of us would take back the cash we've spent on John, Paul, George & Ringo.

In regards to JL4761's comment, The Beatles not only saved rock 'n' roll, they reinvented it.
In effect, they invented the rock band. Before the Fab 4, all bands were backing bands, instrumental combos or vocal groups. After the Beatles, thousands of rock bands emerged that weren't necessarily backing a star front man, often with several singers, and mostly writing their own material instead of relying on supplied songs or doing cover versions.
The Beatles, more than any other band, turned the music industry on its head. Many may disagree, but I believe they had a more seismic impact than Elvis. Their impact is still being felt today.
How did the only two young rock 'n' rollers in Liverpool who were writing their own songs come to meet each other? Fluke? Fate? I don't know, but I guess it was meant to happen.
The Beatles reinvented Rock n' Roll indeed!

Paul met John!

Sorry, don’t know how 2 identical threads popped up. I deleted the other one.

I believe this is the earliest pic of Paul and John in the Quarrymen, probably taken in Sept. 1957. Does anyone know for sure?

Bump for a er special day!

I think that still is the earliest photo of John & Paul in the Quarry Men but it was taken on the 23rd November 1957, at the New Clubmoor hall, Norris Green, Liverpool. I think it actually might also be the earliest photo of John & Paul...whatever they were doing !!

That’s right - I forgot that was where/when they wore those ties!
Here is the club in 2011:
-
A guy in our group bought this photo off the wall of the club for £50! They were raising money to save the club.
-
Inside the club. We all got on the stage and together sang In My Life.

One more:

Nice photos Nancy, I'm glad you had the opportunity to visit the venue. I think they were taking liberties with that notice, which states the actual date that Paul was invited to join the group (20th July 1957). The real date had long been forgotten over the years (even by 1968 John & Paul thought that they'd met in 1955 !! ) and it was only remembered as being roughly two weeks after John & Paul (officially) met at the church fete. The notice more than suggests it was exactly two weeks.

Yeah - “poetic license.” Lol!

Today is the 62nd anniversary of their historic meeting! Thank you Ivan Vaughan and R.I.P.
On outside of Woolton Parish:
-
Took this in 2011 inside Woolton Parish Hall. Artist’s rendering of what he imagined their meeting looked like.

Its a shame that the scout hut hasn't survived as,according to drummer Colin Hanton, thats the true location of John meeting Paul for the first time.

What is a “scout hut?” Like a small cabin? Where exactly was it?

Hard to believe top photo is only 10 years before bottom photo!

That's Pete Shotton “relaxed” on the left; Eric Griffiths, fading into the tree; Len Garry on the upright tea-chest bass with his back to us, John Lennon, Colin Hanton on the drum kit; and Rod Davis.
This photo was taken a couple of hours earlier by Davis’s father before the more famous photo by Geoff Rhind was taken. (the colorized one above)
