When John met his cousins in New Zealand

Interesting article. Presumably the connection is through one of Julia and Mimi's siblings emigrating to New Zealand. Its a pity the article doesn't make it clear how the families are related.

Just been re-reading Imagine This by Julia Baird and the New Zelanad connection is mentioned there. Mimi had a maternal aunt and an uncle who had emigrated to New Zeland. The aunt wasn't name checked but the uncle was George Millward. He never married but it was George who use to correspond with his niece, Mimi. I guess that the younger people in the photos are the children of George's unnamed sister, making them cousins of Mimi. Or perhaps more likely second cousins.

If the children belong to Mimi's maternal aunt, they would be Mimi's first cousins. But that doesn't make sense due to the age difference. Maybe they are grandchildren of the aunt which would make the kids Mimi's first cousins, once removed. (the children of first cousins are second cousins to each other) Those kids were perhaps John's 2nd cousins.
