McCartney 3?

Toris, you're not alone. The only song I really like is When Winter Comes. And Find My Way is good. I have the Japan CD with the 4 bonus songs in my car and will give it a 3rd listen today, but this definitely won't be an album I'll want to revisit in the future, like Flaming Pie, NEW or Egypt Station.
Isn't that funny how we all favor different songs. When Winter Comes does not belong on this album as far as I'm concerned. He sounds so different on it because it's an old song. I don't think it mixes in with the rest.

McCartney III certainly seems to be dividing fans. Either you really like it or you really don't like it. I'm definitely in the former camp and consider M3 the best album Paul has made in many a year. I love the edgy sound and organic performances. It really sounds like an album rather than a collection of disperate songs thrown together.

I love Paul.... but I keep listening to McCartney 3.... and I just have to say.... whilst I am proud of him for getting the-high in the album charts... this is my least favourite Paul album of all.... it just does not grow on me... the "best" songs are worthy of the seventh or eighth best on any of his other releases.
I love him. I love him heaps. But an ordinary album. A wasted opportunity. But, as others have intimated, this release could've been the best since Adam was a boy and Eve was a girl, and it still wouldn't have sold all that much more. Such are the vagaries of music in today's world for an ageing artist.
Still, an ordinary album.
I try, but I cannot kid myself that it is anything more.

I agree. As I stated before, it's fighting for last place with Wild Life and McCartney II on my list of Paul albums. It's a shame that it ends his (almost) uninterrupted streak of great albums starting with Flaming Pie. Hopefully this doesn't mean his next proper studio album will be released 4 years from now as oppossed to 4 years from Egypt Station.

I am in the camp that really likes it also. Album has everything I like to hear in an McCartney album. Song like "Slidin" is really heavy rock , "Find My Way" and "Seize the Day" are very Beatle/Wings type songs, "Kiss Of Venus" is a lovely ballad and he gets experimental with "Deep Deep Feeling". To each their own -lol.

Really love it as well. Having a bit of trouble understanding why others don’t!?

People have different taste in music, not going to stop me from enjoying it. I can tell you that I know 5 people who bought "McCartney III" that have never bought one of his solo albums before and that includes my forty something year old nephew and my brother who is a huge Beach Boy (Brian Wilson) fan. I don't get somebody saying it is one of his worst albums ever but that is their opinion and I just will politely disagree.

I think we should all be grateful for this unexpected album and understand that he is approaching 80 and you may not see another "proper" album.

I love McCartney 3 too, and I definitely think it continues Paul's streak of great albums. I've been worried that we might not see another studio album ever since New came out, so I feel very grateful for McCartney 3 (as I do for Egypt Station too).
That said, I'm always hoping for the next album regardless, because as far as I'm concerned the more the merrier. So I say, bring on the next one as soon as possible!

Just went on Amazon's music site. For McCartney 3 they have almost 3k reviews. Fans are liking the album by and large. Of the 3 thousand reviews, 80% have given McCartney 3 a five star review and another 10% have given it 4 Stars. That means 90% have given the album a very good or excellent review. That's pretty good in general. Most fans really like it!
I agree with Yankeefan and Kestrel. I love McCartney 3 as an album. Especially with the opening and closing tracks, McCartney 3 comes full circle. Unlke some here, I like or love almost all the tracks and like many Paul albums, it has a great deal of variety. It has 2 nice rocking songs (Slidin and Lavatory Lil), a few Bealtesque and Paul like songs (Find My Way, Pretty Boys, Seize the Day), a couple of terrific acoustical guitar songs (The Kiss of Venus, When Winter Comes), a very good piano ballad (Women and Wives), a good R&B groove song (Deep Down), and a nice experimental type track (Deep Deep Feeling). It has great variety and for the most part I find Paul's vocals to be very good. All in all, like Yankeefan says...It has everything you want in a McCartney 3 album. In my opinion, it is very unique and has a distinct sound compared to many of his Post Beatles' albums. Bottom line, it is a great ending to Paul's homemade type albums/trilogy.

I don't have as much of a concern that this might be Paul's last album as long as he stays relatively healthy. Paul is a little different than many of his contemporaries and aging Rock/Pop stars (e.g. Billy Joel). Paul loves music so much and writing songs is like a hobby to him. Even McCartney 3 had a couple of songs he had stockpiled and basically had already written (Sliding during the Egypt Station sessions and When Winter Comes in the early 90's). Paul is always doodling with songs with his guitar and piano. So many things he sees in life sparks ideas in his head for songs. The fact that we're probably not going to see live shows for a good while gives Paul more time to experiment with new songs. Just an opinion, I see a new album probably in less than 2 years.

He really loves to write songs and I agree with you that it is like a hobby for him. If he remains relatively healthy then I would not be surprised if he has another album left in him. The question I have is at his age will he do a "proper" album with different producers/musicians etc or will he want to return to the process he used doing "McCartney III".

You need to remember that he is still working on West End/Broadway show of "It's A Wonderful Life" which I assume they want to have ready by Christmas 2021 assuming live theater is back. You need the composer right up to the time the show does "previews" in case they decide they need to change or add songs.

Hopefully the latter.
I think the next album will be a soundtrack for 'It's A Wonderful Life' followed by another solo album in three or four years time. I hope he'll still be around to make it though as it would be a bit of a shame if McCartney III is his final album. To have the final song on his final album recorded 28 years before the preceding songs makes for a rather messy ending.

Love the new lp , his best since Chaos . Wish he would work with Nigel again

Welcome, see you are new member. I loved CHAOS and thought Nigel was fantastic producer who was not afraid to tell McCartney something was not good. This led to a fantastic album with no clunkers. I am also enjoying "McCartney III".

I'm kind of curious of how others feel about "Pretty Boys". I remember around December 18th when I first was able to hear "official" McCartney 3 Youtube videos. Pretty Boys was one of the first songs I heard and I liked it right off the bat. I remember hearing it 2-3 times on that first day. Then surprisingly when I got up the following morning I was hearing "Pretty Boys"very clearly in my head. Initially, I thought it might be one of those Paul songs that I liked at first but would grow tired of it with repeated listens. Happily, my likeness for the track has not diminished.
First of all, I love the clever and smart lyrics. It has great little phrases and I haven't grown tired of them. I also like Paul's mix of guitars on the song. And more than anything I like the overall production on "Pretty Boys". When he hits the solo part in the middle, I like the "humming" parts blending with the guitars. Finally I like the ending of the song where Paul uses his back-up vocals perfectly in my opinion. It's a typical great 3 minute Paul song to my ears.
I know it is a fairly simple song melodically without changes/bridges which Paul often has, but sometimes simplicity can really work too which is probably why I like the song so much I probably like "Find My Way" and "Seize the Day" a little more but "Pretty Boys"it is pretty darn good song in my estimation..

I'm not over keen on it to be honest and its probably my least favourite track on the album. But given how strong the album is, 'Pretty Boys' is still a pretty good track. Its good enough not to skip anyway. It actually reminds me in parts of another of Paul's songs but I haven't worked out yet what song it is. I think its one of those off 'Flaming Pie', perhaps 'The Song We Were Singing ' or maybe 'The World Tonight'. When I get time I'll check them out as I haven't listened to that album for years.

Chaos is Paul's masterpiece. Released 15 years ago and I listen to it all the time. My #1 McCartney album. McCartney III is #19.

O...M...G...you haven't listened to Flaming Pie in years?! I am gobsmacked as you would say!
It is my favorite album of his in the past 25 years! I always take it with me on long road trips, along with the Beatles entire catalog.
